My Sky system is displaying something about replacing/renewing the new freeview card. My Sky box has never had a card and I don't pay any subscriptions. What can I do in this situation?

Hi 'TRNC' sorry to ask a silly Q.. Are you SURE there is no viewing card behind a hidden flap? Press services on your remote - then 4, then 5 to get to system details.. ( different with new HD menu) Can you SEE a viewing card number showing? IF you CAN pull it out If you don't - what BBC1 and ITV1 region are you getting ? (Channels 101, 103 respectively)

Hi mmmmmm, Thanks for getting back to me. I have a Sky+ box and it has 2 slots which have no flaps (I'm not at home at the mo) and I'm sure there are no cards in any of the slots. BBC1 is very poor reception and we can't watch it - ITV1 is Tyne Tees and Border?

Right then... when you get home, I need to to do what I said in msg 2 ( services 4,5) as without a card, you SHOULD be seeing BBC1 London and 103 Central W ?????? : o

If someone with a new white Sky card, took their card out, would they still get the Sky free-to-air channels?

Vaughan. Get Izzet to delete your card number. You never know, someone may report you to Sky! If I thought of it, someone else will.

I haven't a clue what you are talking about. I do pools and air conditioning. I depend on others to do satellite.

Sorry Vaughan, Let me explain. I was thinking that it may be possible, that Sky could discover that the owner of the card number that you wrote above, is using that card outside of its agreed geographical area.

Thanks Texas, I don't think it matters as the card seems to have expired anyway. Looks like I need a new one sending to a UK address and then out here?

Vaughan the old blue cards are getting turned off - you need a new white card. If you phone Sky - its best to use skype and obviously dont tell them you are in Cyprus. they will sort you out and post youi a new one to a UK address. If you want a non subscrition option i think its £20 for the card this gives you all the free to air stuff. The cheapest subscription is about £19 a month which is quite a good selection of channels.

Hi Kibris, My card is a blue one and I have taken it out of the Sky+ decoder. Strangely we still receive some channels, even without a card. I am hoping I can get some kind soul to purchase me a card and bring it with them in the near future.

Dear 'TRNC' without a card - You should still get BBCs ITVs ( may be c4) SKY news, etc... you may not get C5, and you deffo won't get SKY3 You can order a new white free to view card from SKY: http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/ But be sure to check - if you use SKYPE - what tel no you may be showing ..You need a UK address and once you have the card, you have to call SKY - again - to get the card turned on - they WILL ask you if the phone line is turned on and you must confirm that you are calling from the UK . The cheapest deal with SKY is 18 GBP / monthly - for one mix Lastly .. I'd ditch the SKY + box and get a Pace 2600 if you just want the free channels- the SKY+ has the one of the poorer tuners - you may cure your BBC breakup probs !

Hi mmmmmm, Thanks for all that. Actually, because we don't subscribe to Sky the Sky+ box doesn't record, so it's a bit wasted on us. If anyone wants a swop for the Pace 2600, let me know.

Mark. Re: Message 14. "You need a UK address and once you have the card, you have to call SKY - again - to get the card turned on - they WILL ask you if the phone line is turned on and you must confirm that you are calling from the UK . " Does this mean that they will "activate" you only through the telephone line (impossible over here) or that the signal is sent through the satellite, (but they pretend it's coming through the telephone line)? On another note, I needed to call Sky many many times recently, always using Skype. I always had to go through all the automated security stuff: Home phone number, dob, address, etc. However, on the last occasion, it was all unnecessary as they "decided" to identify me by my UK Skype number and I was not required to give any security details, apart from my password.

Hi Texas if your skype number IS showing a UK one.. you use SKYPE out ( with a UK tel no. ) it 'helps' Even if you withold - sometimes they STILL see your number ! Just to confirm you do NOT need the box plugged into the tel line to activate freeview cards - they will tell you that you are missing out on some interactive services... Sky should always ask for your name/ DOB / first line of your addy and PCode .. they should ask for your tel no and even an agreed password - if previously set up .. they may ask for the account holders mother's maiden name.. for Data Protection reasons . Vaughan: Pace 2600's are more valuable than SKY+ in CY I'm afraid.. You would do better to bring the SKY+ back to the UK to swap.. I have a Pace 2600 -I would swap with you.. it has a heavily scratched case but it WORKS .. !! It was used as my reference test rec'r - When folk moaned I would plug it in and their break up was gone... ( cont)

the other rec'r to watch out for for Freeview in CY is the Pace Javelin.. long since discontinued.. they are SUPERB.. I have five of those for a rainy day.. When even a Pace 2600 is 'struggling' these mini rec'r pull in BBC !

Oh yes.. The Ferrari is FAST.. but does it drink fuel...? The Merc isn't as fast as hoped, but they will bring a new super-diffuser to Bahrain.. Red Bull might be the class of the field but will their engine be reliable? Is the McLaren too hard on tyres ? Will the racing be a procession? Can Sauber shock the 'big boys' Is Lewis back with his Pussycat Doll ? Will it all be a massive anticlimax... ? ;)

Re: Msg 29, Oh yes + - The GOD is not happy with the new car; - New points system was called "a joke" by Gerhard Berger, Mark Webber and Norbert Haug supported him; - FIA questioned the legality of McLaren's rear wing; - Ferrari "adores" Alonso; - Little God (Hamilton) is not happy that J. Button does not want to be No2, but will fight him as an equal.... and so goes on....
