How long will I expect my two small dogs tobe in quarantine. When I move out to Kyrenia.

I have been told so many different time periods, I would like some posative feed back from people who have already done it. Is there an easy way to avoid them been in for too long. Like bottles of whisky, money, etc.

Regards Battery Boy.

if you get a rabies blood test done by a qualified vet labority around 1 week before arriving and you bring this with you and produce it to the goverment vet in the quarantine centre,im sure your dog will only stay for 1 day.

This is what the head man told me in lefcosa animal quarantine centre.

It always used to be a maximum of 1 month regardless of arriving with Rabies jabs which are a must. Our cats (both rabies jabbed in the UK) stayed in quarantine just under 3 weeks.

zero is correct,i know people who have brought pets in and taken them straight home, you must not leave them out of your property for 3 weeks, but this is Cyprus and rules change every day.Check at the quarantine centre. If the dogs are under 5kg i beleive they can travel on some airlines as hand luggage

Hello Batteryboy,Forget the whiskey and money idea. They may possibly be offended or suspicious of a bribe. No reason why you can't offer a donation on release of your dogs

The most important thing is to make certain your documentation is spot on. ie export license (defra) import license (Turkish Vetinary Directorate) Rabies blood test certificate, vacination records, microchip etc.

We bought our dog with us in Nov 2009. We arrived in the early hrs of Sunday, she stayed in quarantine all day Monday and was released on Tuesday morning under house arrest. Not to leave your property or mix with other dogs for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks you return to the kennels and collect her papers.

Easier than getting temporary residency!!!

Dr Mehmet head vet is very helpful Tel 0090392 2253551/751. The kennels are stark and bare but clean. take bedding and food bowls

Rules do change frequently, they seem to have relaxed quarantine recently tho

If you need any more info email lynrobshaz@yahoo.co.uk .

I did this 4 years ago - all jabs where done including rabies, this has to be done other wise you are not allowed an import licence (well 4 years ago any way) my dogs spent a total of 15 days in quarantine. I think the length of stay changes on how busy the kennels are! I have known 4 weeks and also 1 couple of days.

Ours stayed in quarantine for 15 days in 2007. You have to feed and clean them out yourself and you can exercise them in the paddock area up to twice a day. The kennels were hosed; but we mopped and disinfected out every day as, then, the kennels were pretty grim and we were worried he would pick something up there. Workers in the grounds had their hunting dogs on their trucks and they were free to run around the dogs in quarantine as we walked them! We made good friends there as the group of us met daily on our clean up/ exercise visits!

I can only hope that the fabric of the kennels has been improved sine we were there!

we brought ours in in October speak to Dr Mehmet he is excellent try and plan their arrival for a weekday as early in the day as possible ours never left our sight or car, they did home quarantine for 3 weeks. Only their passports were held at Lefkosha for those 3 weeks and we had to pay a few hundred Lire to get them back - money well spent under the circumstances.

I would like to thank you all for your feed back. I hope I can get home quarantine. My two dogs are like

daughters to me. I have had them for three years, and have had more love from them, than from my

wife and kids. Regards Battery Boy

We too are bring our dog out end of May and it is good news to hear that he may not need to spend too much time in quarentine, he is like our little boy and would not do well alone in a strange place with out us.

Hi

Ou dog and cat were brought over April 2009.

Do you know you have to feed them and walk them every day yourself. We went twice a day as we felt so sorry for them in there. I cried everytime I left them. It took all day everyday for 9 days.

The people at the quarantine building do nothing but give you a key to the kennel.

You are not allowed to take them outside the compound which is concrete not grass (prison we called it) Please be prepared for this it is not HOME !!!! Nothing like it.

I understand your dogs are like your children our pets are the same. But you will get through it.

Ask every day when you can take them home until they get sick of you. We also gave them a donation for the place.

Not a good experience I want to prepare you for this as no one told it as it was to me.

Our cat and dog settled in great they love it here with the sun shining on them.

Good Luck!!!!

Linda

All advice above is good. We bought our 2 pekes out in December 2003. The kennels aren't good but I've seen worse in UK! So long as you go every day, twice a day to clean out, feed and walk, there shouldn't be a problems. We got our boys out in 10-days. Good Luck - call if you want any other info: 0533 848 8953

Get your Rabies blood test certificate the week before you arrive and your pet will stay 1 day.

I drove my dog here end of Apr 2010. The customs called out the duty Vet person - no doubt smelling money!!

Anyway I was pleasantly surprised. The dog's documents were in order so on payment of a small fee I was sent on my way for "home quarantine".

Zero is correct, it is home quarantine now. 12 - 24 hours at the Lefkosa veterinary clinic, my friend has just bought her dog and it was very easy indeed.

Thanks pugwash

As i said in the past,i only deal in the truth.

But it is great news to pet lovers,as it can be distressing to some owners having to make that journey some time twice a day and for weeks as opposed to days, and seeing and hearing there pets cries.

A friend of mine had a toy yorkie there, luckily i managed to not let it stay longer than 16hours,but it was then kept at home for a period of time, without going out.
