Hi can anyone recommend a restaurant in the Famagusta - Bogaz areas which provides the full Xmas works, santa etc. My girls and I would like to spend Xmas in Cyprus but only if we can capture some of the Christmas spirit we'll be missing out on.

Also my mother asked me to bring over a Xmas tree for her (where she thinks I'll find one in June only she knows!) Surely NC sell Xmas trees since there are so many Brits living there.

Hi Zuhre,

You can buy all Christmas and New year related items over here, this is not due to the "Brit" population, Turkish Cypriots always celebrate the season with New Year trees, Father Christmas "Noel Baba" e.t.c, you may be able to find a real Tree at the forestry commision.

Hi Zuhre

Myself and my wife will be spending a week in NC over the New Year period in a hotel so I will be interested to hear from members as to where we could go in the evenings at this time of year and particularly New Years Eve

I have spent the last 4 New Years Eve's in the centre of Girne, dinner at the Carob in the harbour followed by champagne, live music, fireworks and the locals all enjoying the festivities at the Belediye square makes for a fine evening out followed by a couple of hours in the casino before watching the sun come up for the new year.

I think the Mercure in Kervansary had a Santa at their Christmas lunch festivites. Not sure about anywhere else though, although I suspect there must have been some others.

We got our Christmas tree in Tempo, Karaoglanoglu!

Ooops, sorry - just realised you wanted Famagusta/Bogaz. Some friends of ours had the full Christmas works at the Palm Beach, Famagusta in 2006, so that might be a good place to check.

what about the bigger hotels like the Dee European or the Salamis Bay - might be complete rubbish so don't blame me, but worth finding out about?!

Thanks will make enquiries as all your suggested locations.

Moon over Water is five minutes drive from my home. I drove there saw the parking area and drove back out again. Should I "not judge the book by the cover?" So many of you have highly recommended this restaurant.

Hi zuhre , elegant it is not , and like you , i have never given it a second look , but on my last visit , my friend really wanted a sunday roast , i remembered the reviews from another forum , so we went , i can't recommend the food highly enough { the sunday roast } it was delicious , it was beef that day , and it came with everything but the kitchen sink and so much of it , there were 3 of us and it could have fed 6 people , and the apple pie and custard was mouthwatering apart from the other deserts , this restaurant needs to be taken seriously , we will definately be going back on my next visit

regards , simbas

Thanks Simbas - I'll trust your recommendation and try it this summer. If the food is as good as you say, you would think they would tidy up the outside to encourage more customers instead of scaring us away! Also, their two large, barking (as opposed to meowing!) dogs tied up at the front were not welcoming at all.

Simbas, I have a property on Noyanlar Site 3. Opposite Istanbul Plaj. Why did they stop serving food there? It was lovely, local, cheap and cheerful.

I have narrowed my hotel choice down to the Pia Bella or the Ship over the New Year period. I am not sure which one to go with. Any suggestions

If you like to walk into town, then the Pia Bella is ideal. Always enjoyed my stays there (but haven't used it for 2 years)

Christmas is not an official holiday here, so should be OK. New years is pretty much as the UK.
