Following the recent successful coffee morning at the Cafe Park, Karsiayaka, several people present discussed the possibility of running a 'market' on a Sunday morning there.

Anyone interested?

You can sell anything you like (except unwanted spouses or children).

NO CHARGE for your stall.

A chance to gather socially, make friends, make some money, help the community. (charity stalls welcome)

If enough interested this could start in April (easter time).

Why not call Dot and have a chat on 0533 842 9869

And another thought from Dot. A Saturday could be considered if enough people wanted to try to make a go of it.

Same conditions - but different day.

Dot would be happy to hear from any who would like to discuss the matter to see what might be done.

From a potential customer veiw point - a Sunday in this area would be great!!! The other markets are all during my working days (or the other side of Girne ) so that would appeal to me as a customer !!! and of course possibly as a stall holder too

Thanks Airy Fairy, I will pass o n your message. And I am sure Dot and Helen would love to know what other potential customers feel.

It is a bit like events that happen in afternoons when some poor souls are slaving away over a hot computer! It is good to arrange things for people to give them some pleasure, and I think these markets are a great way of spending an hour in good company, getting a bargain and making new friends.

By the way, at Park Cafe, the Nescafe is only two and a half lira! And it is good! I am a coffee addict so I should know.

So, any more feed back from anyone - or contact Dot, phone number as above if you would be interested.

More feedback required if this is to happen. Any stall holders out there interested? It must be viable otherwise there is no point at going half heartedly. And, I am just the messenger 'boy' , by the way.

Excuse my ignorance, but why do various people keep writing " To the top"?

What does it mean?

Dear enrico

It's quite easy. No matter what comment you put in this box, it takes it up to the top of the page! Hence it does not fall out of sight and disappear. So by my replying to you, it goes back up to the top.

As to the other interested people, I will pass on your enthusiasm and get those organising it to get in touch.

Thanks folk.

Anyone else out there interested? It is no good starting with half measures.

Oh and yes, there ARE toilets - good nice ones - and shade? Well, it will probably start inside. More info will be given

I think this is a great idea, and would give the good people of Karsiyaka a chance to sell local produce as well as creating another opportunity for social gathering. Well done the sponsors!

Ian.

tHANKS EVERYONE. Have passed on all the info to Dot and Helen. Incidentally they are on Cup of C;onversation on Sat evening at 7p.m. on BRT2 (I think it is).

You have given them food for thought, so if there are enough stall holders then Cafe Park might hold the first one at Easter time.

Will let you know, but still open to thoughts.

Yet another idea following one thing after another! Pegasus restaurant was (from memory) the first to do this on a Friday, Madam M. Hutchinson fell out with the owner and moved her 'stall' and her followers to the Carpenters Pub on exactly the same day and time! A Saturday one was then set up (forget where), then the Watermill Hotel on a Sunday morning (which frizzled out), all copying the ideas from others, (farmers markets, boot/garage sales) etc etc. Does anyone have the concept of doing something completely different?!

You are correct Brinsley, except that, as I keep getting told, it is PEGASOS. There was also one at Tolga's which was quite popular but then ran into probs. Chateau Lambousa of course is doing extremely well, and that is why it was decided to do one at Karakum on a Sunday to give people a chance that end of enjoying a market.

I agree with you that some fizzle out, but Lambousa hasn't. So, there has to be an incredient or two there that doesn't exist at the olthers.

The idea of Karsiyaka is to give locals that end a chance to go out, get a bargain, socialise etc.

BUT I am sure that Dot and Co would welcome any idea of doing 'something completely different'. What?

More stall holders required. Don't forget - it is for free! A rare bargain. Of course, it would be good if you bought a cuppa or two from the Cafe Park proprietor, but.................................. Dot is waiting to hear form you.

I think this is a great idea, very hard for me to attend any of the other markets due to work but sundays and just down the road is perfect, hope they get enough response but when you think back to when the lambousa started they only had a few stalls there but as the weeks went on it got more busy so it will take time but worth it. Good luck

As long as its promoted well, it could take off. A number of stall holders that live this side and go to the Karakum markets on a Sunday might well be tempted to stay this side as it would be so much easier. Caroline tried one at the garden centre that never really got going, then Ibos Bar started one last year, that was just starting to get going well, when the girl that ran it had to go back to England for a while, so it died a death, so definitely worth a go.

For those who are interested the First one was called the Melting Pot presided over by Allan Cavender and met every Friday at the one and only Chinese Restaurant in Girne ( at the time) Chinese House which used to be located in the old Turkish Quarter. The restaurant Sele now occupies the spot. When Allan moved to Pegasos everyone moved with him.

Yes, and when Allan went, nothing was ever the same! And they don't make too many Allen Cavenders, do they?

I have a new neighbour just arrived from the South, and she also would be interested in taking a table at the market on a Sunday, so I think with all this response their should be enough to get started with.
