I seem to recall you are only supposed to bring in £5000 at any one time each,i suppose it's up to you really at the end of the day.So convert this to ytl for leaving i presume.

It was 10,000 USD per person on any one journey but might have changed in the last few months. If you want to move more it is usualy easy through your banks

According to H M Customs and Excise you are allowed to bring in to the UK 10.000 Euros or the equivilent, i assume this to mean that if you were to bring in more then you would be asked to prove where it came from.

Even within the allowance quoted you still stand the chance of being questioned at length by customs at either end. It is not unknown for people to miss flights because of this. All due to money laundering regs. The question, why take the risk of trnasporting large amounts of cash when bank transfers are relativley cheap and safe, what happens if you loose the cash cos you are not insured!!!

Msg 1 Bringing IN cash to TRNC on arrival does not pose a problem but exiting, the maximum is $10K USA or equivalent. What other Countries stipulate what you can take out legally is not the basis of your question! Richard

Sometimes the point of taking 'CASH' is because transferring between banks leaves a paper trail.... Draw your own conclusions...LOL I assume the exchange rates being low mean the YTL accounts may be closed up and sterling brought home.

i have been pulled twice by 'money dogs' at uk airports even though i was not leaving the airport i was in transit, they get a bit iffy if you cannot produce some form of receipt for it from a bank i think its £5000 or to that value either way i would sugest just doing a swift transfer then its no hassle

| Msg 11 I recently watched a 'passport control' or similar program on TV when the unsuspecting traveller was nabbed by the authorities due to a 'tip off' from the patrolling sniffer dog only to find out the dog was trained for both drugs and money, the traveller only carrying a couple of grand for holiday spending money and no drugs was most put out and, of course, received no apology! | Some time ago a figure was published showing the percentage of British banknotes which were contaminated with cocaine. Dont remember what it was but it was a lot more than seemed possible. That is what the dogs go for. |
