| In view of the report below perhaps someone can draw up and post a suitable email for members to Flood his capaign Hq with ?? Vima: Barack Obama supports Greek positions on Cyprus issue, name dispute with Skopje 14 June 2008 | 19:17 | FOCUS News Agency Athens. Barack Obama supports the Greek positions on the Cyprus issue and name dispute with Skopje, the Greek Vima newspaper writes, citing Obama’s interview with the Greek section of the Voice of America. The Vima comments the interview comes as a nice surprise for Greece. Obama declares his support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, calling on Turkey to give religious freedom to the institution, return the property to the Patriarchate and allow opening of a theological school on the island of Halki. As to the Cyprus issue, Obama says he backs one decision based on the UN resolutions and EU Treaties, noting the decision has to be accepted by both communities and grounded on the law, UN resolutions and EU principles, as the Republic of Cyprus is their member. The U.S. Democratic presidential candidate highlights the long time relations between Greece and the U.S., which are now put to the test because of the policy followed by the George Bush administration, especially on the name dispute. Obama mentions Resolution 300 which is supported by U.S. senators and reads that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has to stop violating the Interim Accord with Greece through hostile behavior, activity or propaganda, and start cooperating with Greece to achieve the common goal of the UN and U.S. – finding a mutually acceptable name, the Vima says. |

The report is as clear as mud. A Presidential candidate will support almost any position to get elected. Far more important is what he does if/when he is. Not absolutely sure, but I would imagine there are a lot more Greek Americans than Turkish Americans.

I understand Obama fairly well, its the report that makes no sense. Any politician will do what is best for them first, followed by what is best for their party, followed by what is best for their country. As for the rest of the planet?

Ok now we have a fey opinions I have posted a similar thing on th cypus forum but chucked a grenade in see below Ankora. John McCain supports the Turkish positions on the Cyprus issue and name dispute with Skopje, the Turkish Turkish dailynews newspaper writes, citing McCain’s interview with the Turkish section of the Voice of America. The comments the Turkish dailynews interview comes as a nice surprise for Turkey. McCain declares his support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul, calling on Greece to recognise the religious freedom given to the institution, realise that the return the property to the Patriarchate will not happen and allow accept f theological school on the island of Halki. As to the Cyprus issue, McCain says he backs one decision based on the UN resolutions and EU Treaties, noting the decision has to be accepted by both communities and grounded on the law, UN resolutions and EU principles, as the Republic of Cyprus is their member, But adds the legalities of Cyprus entry into the EU need to be looked at. The U.S. Republican presidential candidate highlights the long time relations between Turkey and the U.S., which are now put to the test because of the policy followed by the George Bush administration.

At the end of the day, lets use Occam's Razor. A politician will tell any group of potential voters anything they want to hear to gain their votes. Once elected he will do what he likes and do whatever it takes to stay friends with useful allies like Turkey. Oh Yes, what is Occam's Razor? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_Razor Lem
