Can any-one recommend an İndependent Surveyor in the Girne area? Will be required to assess Damage to a Villa, thought to be due to the use of a number of 'sub-standard' materials. Thank you in advance.

If you want a Chartered Surveyor there is only Stuart Hillard. However, from your message it appears you may want to go 'legal' in which case you will need a surveyor recognised by the courts. I have used Mehmet Sungur (based in Lefkosa, which is a benefit as there's no Girne cosy deals) He picked me up in Girne and took me to his offices, and then onto my Lapta house to carry out a survey. mehmetsungur@mehmetsungur.com

Why wouldn't an EU Professional's opinion stand up in the court? Is it because EU standards are too high???

My understanding is that the courts will only accept the evidence from a registered TRNC professional, and of course a report must be in Turkish.

Hopefully never will be - but yes you're right. Before TRNC can enter the EU it would have to 'open chapters' and fulfill the criteria within in a similar manner to what Turkey is doing at the moment.

greenman, no offence but I hope your information about court requirements is better than your "before TRNC can enter the EU" statement. The TRNC does not exist in the eyes of the international community and come a settlement will cease to exist completely and in its place would be a single Cyprus ALREADY in the EU. The EU is currently readying north Cyprus for that day.

I was trying to point out that the current practices within the TRNC would have to change, but you're quite right to pick me up on the clumsy phrasing.
