I would very much like to know whether anyone, whether domiciled here or in U.K, has ever had any problems with Hawk Garage which is in the centre of Kyrenia. I have heard that there could be some London Cypriots who did not receive the best of treatment. I have a personal and particular concern to learn whether any others have been 'disappointed' in this establishment.

If so, could they please contact me. I really do have good reasons for this.

Thank you.

Thanks for telling me I am going to Larnaca on 22nd April - first I heard of it. Where did you see that one? Have I become schizoid and made postings I cannot remember? Wish I could help. I would be going to U.K if I won the Lotto, but so far I haven't.

Sorry I can't help. But hope someone can!

Wow. I am going barmy! Sorry. I am going over to collect a friend from Geneva IF she actually comes. If she does, she normally arrives at a civilized hour and it could co-incide.

Sorry to be so stupid, but I had forgotten about that, having cancelled my own trip. Troo much on my mind.

But if I am going, I will certainly take you, but take a rain check nearer the time - unless you get someone else to take you.

Sorry about that. I have been out all day and brain not yet in proper 'drive'. I will check if my mate is definitely arriving that day, but at the moment she is in England.!

Thank you for that. I am collecting stories. I am about to report them to the Police, the Chamber of Commerce, the Garage Proprietors Union (not that they belong, but). I had heard they are used by the police for accident towing, but it is time the 'world' knew that they are not only rip offs but lie and cheat and are guilty of fraud. That is why I want to know if anyone else has been personally ripped off.

Thanks for that comment johndp!

Anyone else.

I now know what you say is true Deniz1, but I am not giving up trying to get my 1000tl, but chiefly to do something to stop him ripping off other people.

I will make further enquiries as to who in the police he is in with, but may well not find out. I have friends in politics who feel he should be stopped as well, - not that it makes much difference, but I do not think that evil should prevail while good men stand by and do nothing.

Interesting that he now has another friend acting as interpretor who wants to know where I live???? Hmmm. Why???? And when you say y7uo know him, do you mean the son or the father? I was told the father was O.K, but I believe he retired years ago.

What more does anyone know?

Yes had a bad experience with them about 4 years ago when my car had to be towed to their garage. Trouble is cant remember exactly what it was now but they were unhelpful and refused to refund my towing fee as they also got paid by the insurance company...or something like that.

Thanks, LostFound. I am getting quite a picture of blatant c\orruption now. I had been told by my friends that the Father was o.K, but I now hear of people ripped off my him twenty years ago. So....... I have written to some friends in reasonably high places to ask how far I can take this without getting a knife in my ribs. I just HATE it when evil prevails!

As I said earlier, they charged us for work they did not do! 1000tl ' worth. I may well get it back, but the message must be spread that they are cheats. He wouldn't even give a bill for the insurance company on the grounds that it could involve VAT. He has however, admitted in front of witnesses that he owes us the 1000 which is tantamount to admitting that he is guilty of fraud!

Any more.

And by the way, I am not going to Oz yet (unless someone gets up a collection to get rid of me. Para yok! Especially after being robbed of 1000 lira - what chance have I got?

Thanks Deniz 1, because the friend who recommended the place to me said he thought the father was retired. It is also interesting that the son tried to claim a different surname. He wrote down a long word which was complete gibberish. Not sure I have ever heard of a son and father having a different surname.

But unfortunatley, sometimes these cheats do not have th eintelligence to cope with their own lies.

Any more contributions. At least I have a lot of info now, but I will NOT give any names out. Trust me! Well, I hope someone trusts me, cos I would hate to be a liar and a cheat. Couldn';t live with my conscience for all the harm done to others.

And today's saga is.............................I will get my money, definitely by Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So any more stories out there. I will have a lot to sock to the Chamber of Commerce and the police - it is just that it will take solong to write. (No names, of course, other than ours!)

This saga is becoming quite an interesting discussion point in my second home - Cafe Dukkan.

h, and if there are any volunteers to form a 'heavy mob' (and I don't necessarily mean 'overweight') to go and collect my money on Wednesday, I would be happy to hear from them.

I am rather doubtful that he will have the money, but I have a witness that has heard that it will DEFINITELY be available on Wednesday, so it would be good to have a lot of witnesses who can say I was let down. Perhaps I could take a photo of everyone's back view at the garage, and then give a copy of that to the Powers that Be.

Any curious cats out there?

Thanks Lilli, but I reckon people like this MUST be stopped. As one of my friends said over the phone today 'this kind of thing ruins the reputationof we Cypriot people' - and she is Cypriot and a witness to the man taking the money from us. It is blatant fraud. To take money for a job he never did and to lie and cheat to do it, deserves justice if only to prevent others being taken in by this crook.

Someone did say to me that it may be that this chap does not actually have friends in the police, but listens to the police radio setting and then rushes off to the scene. Apparently this is a Cypriot thing and done south as well as north.

But I will get arond to going to the police station soon. Hopefully with a TC! Thanks for your caring.

stand your ground marie. we are fed up of certain cyps thinking they can rip us off. i dread to think sometimes what they are saying amongst themselves knowing we don't understand!

the majority of people born and bred here are warm and wonderful people.

we have chosen to come here because we fell in love with it. it takes mutual respect for the whole thing to work.

there are people who will try to take advantage wherever, it just needs to be shown it is not acceptable.

a decent job for a decent price is a perfectly reasonable thing for anyone to expect.

keep us updated!

Thanks for the encouragement. I do know some lovely TC's and this is the first one I have encountered who is a blatant 'thief'.

Will keep everyone posted, but welcome further stories of abuse at the hands of this man - I now have several, and all I need is the time to write my report, which is kinda lengthy as to the lies of this man. I am fortunate that I have so many witnesses, and if needs be will try to involve people higher up the scale than this man may ever know. But having said that, people often do not want to be involved.

But we shall see. As I said before, it is now so much getting our money back (which is important) but to stop this man ripping any more people off.

Just in case you are interested, there have been two further let downs, and today's story, via a friend is 'He had a cheque but the bank wouldn't cash it.......................' So the message back to Mr Suavi Kurtariciogullari of Hawk Garage is that today I spoke to two police officers I know, and they told me to go in the station, although as I said to one of them 'I can tell from the smile on your face that you know this man!'. I have also spoken to the President of the Consumer Association and he assures me that he will help me get my money back. Now all I have to do is sit and write reams of the 'Saga of Hawk Garage'. Ihave also been advised by London to make sure that everyone out here knows of the man and his dealings and to get him blacklisted. But of course I could get a knife in my back, cos sadly I have found that when you stand against these people you stand alone.

Anyone care to prove me wrong?

Thanks Newlad. I must admit a phone call today was almost 'threatening' to us. But I feel strongly that someone has to stop this bloke. I am told Monday now 'for sure' but over the week-end I am typing my letters all ready to go to Police, Consumer Assn, Chamber of Commerce, and Garage Union. I would have felt sorry for the guy and his cash flow if he had been honest. He could have charged us for the two of 10 yards and gone away. Instead of which he told my other half that three new parts were needed and not to drive the vehicle. He then roars off round the corner at about 40kph. I didn't see that, and wish I had known it. Hence he is guilty of fraud! But I do feel sick to the stomach with no one to actually stand by us. But, I believe in justice, so will not let this one go.

Hope you are all here when it is my funeral! But I prefer flowers when alive.

Hi Marie B

I do admire your gumption and your principles here, but I agree with Newlad - please go very carefully. It does seem such a shame that there is no-one to help you with this - "safety in numbers" and all that. Also, of course, when it comes down to money matters................!

Take care.

Kind regards.

Jean

Yes, safety in numbers, Jean! But no one wants to be a number! Many people have had problems with this man, but obviously prefer to forget it. I can't even get anyone to come with me to face the man as a witness.

But my Turkish Cypriot friends say I should go to the Police, and I respect their views. See what the beginning of next week shows up!

Thanks for your kind words, though

marie reading this im worried for your safety, i know you have principles but they do not work here, we paid the landlords of the brasserie 15k deposit, when they put the rent up to two thousand pounds a month we had no choice than to walk away with nothing for 4 years hard work, after a few days we met with the landlors, a footbal club TDB club, they informed us that no deposit was shown on thier books, we managed to get a copy of the cheque we gave them, by now the ex president of the club had left. After 4 days they got back to us to say we did not give a deposit but a donation to the football club and to sue them.Guess what they have 5 solicitors on thier board. our solicitor told us we are wasting money and time, so my principles had to go. I do not know the people you are talking about as you know I would be behind you.i wish you well my ;ovely friend xxxxxxxx

Thanks Lilli. Now you are scaring me. I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED as to how you were treated. And for your own lawyers to back down is equally disgusting. Where was the PROOF that it was a donation. Did you have a receipt? Was there no paper work for the deposit, or did it accompany a contract? Did they say you broke the contract for instance. And why couldn't you go to the ex president.

I don't think that TC's in London and the organisations they represent, such as Embargoed and ATCA have a clue as to how life really is here. They talk of the injustices politically, but don't seem to see the daily ones.

Anyway, if I get stabbed to death, I would like a Viking Ceremony. I don't want to be buried in the British Cemetery and I don't want a ceremony of any kind, - but I wonder if anyone would honour that! Can;t have the viking ceremony, and my garden isn't big enough to take me. Another dilemna! Well, you have to laugh, don't you?

Dylan has the most beatiful home, his own bed with his own sheets and a toy basket from hamleys. he came to visit me this week, and no matter what i have done for him as has sloan, he lept inyo my arms. ThaT BABY was such a joy and i hope the person who dumped him on me i hope youare happy, because others are not so lucky xxxxxxxxxxxx
