The number of over 60s as a proportion of the populace in the UK is 22 %. That of Turkey 8% . In India it is also 8%. Both have huge rural areas of course with poverty. And the Turks at least smoke like chimneys. So perhaps the smoking ban is not such a bad thing !

More and more young people need to be attracted and trained into the skilled jobs in th U.K. going by those stats.I know apprenticeships seem to be a thing of the past.but skills are so relevant in the work place and need to be handed down to the younger generation, Grey.

Hi Begonia. It is an interesting, if worrying statistic for pensioners in the UK going into the 21 century. Pension pots at an all time low (unless you're an MP, civil servant or other public worker), little chance of UK Gov Pension increasing significantly, an increase in unemployment and a worryingly low working population. Throw into the pot a disastrous economic policy that will have a knock on effect for at least the next 10 years, and you have a very unhappy outlook. Third world UK here we come.

Looks good on a CV though Grade B for, interacting with the public. How many chicken nugggets would you like 3, 6 or 9? do you want chips with them? what flavour milk shake would you like? eating in or out? is that everything? and then the Maths skills adding it all up using a computer.

It is a good post begonia, but thought it was something to do with b----y football again!! Looks like our dear old Labour gov intend to kill us all off as they want to bring in some sort of tax to pay for our old age... A lot of us will die of a heart attack if they just dip their grubby little fingers in our bank accounts again.... They have pinched our pensions, ..... Wheres Coachie, he likes to argue with us over these issues? Coachie baby, come back. With our crime figures rising up by 44% since Labour got in, another reason them lot are killing us off, stab the elderly we wont have to look after them once they got the dosh....

If some of those who choose not to work and take benefits instead entered the real world we would gain twice over. We wouldn't have to support them and they would pay something in taxes to help us (the poor old pensioners) And if you get a GCSE for working in MacDonalds for two weeks ( can this be true ?) I think we're doomed anyway !

Dooomed we'r all dooomed, what has happened to coachie? he hasnt been on for ages, I need my fix, coachie, where art thou. What really gets my hackles up is the work shy who plead that they are on the poverty line they can still smoke, can still drink in the local pub, GO shopping with their 15 kids around the supermarkets, and say its non of our business what they do.....
