I have submitted all documents to girne Police 4 weeks ago. I now have to collect them from Immigration in Nicosia. 1. Does anyone know the current situation regarding the length of time I may have to wait? 2. Can I collect my wife's residency on her behalf, or must she present herself in person? 3. Are there some days that are better than others? I know this has been discussed before, however, my questions relates to "now" as opposed to last week/month. Thanks.

It's odd that 'fixers' like Louie and the ladies at Ergunes can collect anybody's residency but you have to go in person... never quite worked that one out.

If there is no official list at the door when you get there early take a piece of paper with you and start one. They will then transfer it on to the official list. Chris

I went last week got there just after 7.30, was no 28 on the list. Then was given no 26 waited about 30 mins then some guy (who looked like the gardener coz he was wearing wellies!) collected all the Brits passports and directed us around the corner to another office. One lady dealt with all our files we were back in the car driving off by 9.10am!!! Not bad!

All good advice, but just pot luck I think. 2 weeks ago arrived at 9.30(went to the wrong place in the first instance) no 45 Escaped at 3.15pm.Not too bad met other people, had lunch and a gossip. Time passed quickly. At least we got it.Heard tales of others who've waited all day and then sent home to return another day

Before you go ring 0392 6111016, and they will confirm that your residency is completed and ready for collection.

What is the right moment to ask for a 2-year residency (if you are 60+)? When you first go to the counter? Or the moment you have to pay?

msg 15. It was discussed on here a couple of weeks ago, apparently they don't ask you but if you ask they will give you 2 years if you are 60+

A two year visa costs 370tl - twice the one year. I don't know why you crazy folk go at crack of dawn. That is your choice, but you don't have to. The person who got whipped around the corner because British is the way it should be for all. Pointout you are English and over 60 and you should not have to wait. But if you like acting like Saturday morning cinema (gotta be first in the queue - well, I did!) so be it. I got up there at 11a.m. I think the idea of the two year is to reduce some of the strain on the office, but as it can to be to our advantage, then it is a good offer, even though there is no reduction in price. Same paper work for all, but twicfe the price! But it IS an offer. Hope it goes well for you.

Read all about it in letter page of Cyprus Today. It is finally all returning to 'human' status. The old queuing list torn up before the Brits very eyes. Good stuff

Also you do not have to be over 60 to get 2 year residency but maybe one of a couple does? I know of 2 people under 60 who have been given 2 yrs. Like Marie B, I don't do getting up at the crack of dawn to pay money either. So I'm hoping that things have returned to the situation a few years ago, where you could go in the afternoon if you wanted to. I'm not one of these people who stands up as the plane is landing or rushes to be first on the plane either. I left my UK head back in England when I retired. Like sideways said, I know many who have picked up residency on behalf of their partner. What would happen if one partner was quite ill & residency was due? Message 4. Louis is a close neighbour & collected our residencies last year on our behalf. It helps to have friends.

Well done, scruff. Up the Rebels. This is CYPRUS, and I believe in leaving behind all the bad bits of Britain. Or maybe I spent too long in Australia - and am a bit of a female Ned Kelly (but alive). Roll on more like us!!!!
