msg 2 That's because you're a little short on truth as well as years. Patientia est a donum superum.

Troodo Msg 4 I don't usually get involved in answering opinions like yours, however I lived and worked in Cyprus in the late 60's early 70's and know the truth very well. When living there it wasn't divided as such but many Turkish Cypriots had to live in their own communities because of the genocide that was going on. Don't really want to say any more so don't bother answering.

Roxy, Yours are the stories that we need to get out there so everyone can read or listen to a balanced view of the 60s and 70s please re-consider, Paul.

Roxy, I was here with the military between 69 and 72 and am very disgusted to have to admit that I never saw anything wrong happening anywhere. When I consider that I lived in Limassol in civilian houses (4 altogether in the time I was here) owned by both Greek and Turkish people, yet never heard nor saw anything and that I traveled all over the Island on my motor bike, snorkel diving around the coast, I am deeply hurt that I never noticed anything wrong! I can only consider that the Greek side of things had the Turkish side well and truly under control and kept people away from anywhere that may have shown the true light of events. It was different in 1965 when I was in Nicosia - there it was obvious what was happening and it was not nice! I feel sorry for you and understand your reluctance to get involved if you indeed witnessed what was happening - it will not fade from your memory and that to is sad. Good luck.

newlad, Thanks for that but I must say that there is always two ways at looking at things and I do try to see other peoples points of view. I hope one day there will be a solution but it has been made more difficult with incompetent and ill informed politicians. Bob

"ill informed politicians" I don't think so, I think they know what happened very well Bob but dare not speak the truth... They have engineered a version of things that would make liars of them all. A very difficult thing to undo whilst some of the major players and power brokers are still alive... Ill-informed is what the populace were and are, it enabled those with an agenda to further their own agendas and political fortunes.

Message 7 - also in Lim 69/72. My experience was that the Turks mainly stayed in their "quarter" and although my Greek friends had Turkish friends the Turks were regarded as an "underclass". We were led to believe that the Turks were a danger so that to get to Kyrenia you were supposed to join UN convoys at Nicosia. My wife and I together with our baby daughter avoided the convoys and went through the old Turkish villages with never a problem. Much the same as the Catholics in N Ireland were treated by the "ulster scots protestants" !!! And the Palestinians are treated by the Israelis !! You could go on for ever!!!

I read a quote recently that said "the trouble with Cyprus is that the GCs choose not to remember what happened before 1974, and the TCs will never forget". An elderly GC told me he believed trying to reunite the island is a mistake, and likened it to "forcing a divorced couple to re-marry. They had the 'trial separation, then the divorce, and now all they are waiting for is the final settlement". Interesting to hear different peoples take on the problem. TRACEY
