Rule 1, Don't pay it! Rule 2, If you do, complain why the street lights aren't working, the mosquito tank never comes and sprays, and why the garbage bin when erratically arrives empties only half the rubbish, the rest being left where it should have been collected! Rule 3, The more you're in the 'system' the more you pay! Your choice! Richard

Msg 6 You are confusing the annual charge with the monthly water bills. The yearly property tax is an additional seperate issue

Ignoring the monthly water bill, can I ask then, about the two taxes - I take it the property tax is paid by the owner of the property. Who pays the Belediye tax and what is it for? I ask cos I'm renting. Thanks.

Pippie-the Belediye tax is just another name for rates-in Alsancak currently 90Tl every six months. The property tax again is another name for rates (well this is Cyprus) that is paid once a year. If you are renting then who pays it is a matter of agrement between you and the landlord I supose.

Property tax in Lapta appears to unchanged from previous years - 1TL per square metre. I'm not sure about properties with pools but, in the past, they have been 1.25TL per metre.

Your "council Tax" is based on the square footage of your property and it works out at approximately 1.5TL per square meter. Just got my bill for 88square meter property 124 TL annual charge.

and if you live in Bellapais well worth a visit to the local office or ask your property manager to pop in. Emine has lots of letters regarding the Tasinmaz mal vergisi tahakkuk fisi in english names for 2000 - 2008. and also rental demands for properties which have been found on the internet.
