| Thinking of buying one of these ( http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9271771&ecamp=trf-005&CAWELAID=266887990 ) to be fitted to outside pipework from water meter to cold storage tank but am trying to remember if the external piework is compatible. From memory I think its 15mm pipe and silver in colour, so not sure if its zinc coated (galvanised) copper pipe or otherwise. our site is about 4 years old. So, does anyone know if this is standard type plated copper pipe that can accept this type of compression fitting?? Cheers for any info |

| Millzer a similar unit is available from http://www.softcleanwater.co.uk made by Culligan but not branded by B&Q as Permutit http://softcleanwater.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9&zenid=8fe4d2fde6b52c0cb8d3556a6c1d9c6e The price for the replacement cartridges on SCW is lower if you buy two at 24.30 each. The unit could possibly work for you but is primarily designed to work on 15 or 22 mm copper pipe not on iron or plastic. So you might need extra connectors. You should really put a non return valve before it and that might also reduce your incoming water flow. I have no idea how the unit will react to having possible frequent periods of no water and going by the item that I think maybe being rebranded take note that its Maximum working temperature is supposed to be Water 30 C Ambient 35C The cartridge is designed for about 12 months app 120,000 Ltrs - what is your usage per month of occupation? | Hi Tom, yeah I had noticed the temperature ranges and wondered about this but I presume all varients of this type of device would be the same. Also I had thought about whether the fact that it may have no water flow thru for months at a time (holiday home only) would affect it. In the main i'm trying to establish the exteriot pipework material. Would it be galvanized iron/steel?? Why would a non return valve be needed as the water isn't used for drinking and the idea would be to fit it from the village main supply after the water meter, before it reaches the storage tank. It wouldn't affect the pump as this is the other side of the piping i.e. via the tank outlet as opposed to the inlet? |

| The non return valve should be in place to prevent possible back siphonage into the public water supply The village water might be used for drinking etc. This is nothing to do with your pump. |
