Last year I was quoted £20 to £30 per linear metre for 1.2m garden wall, but there are several variables. 'Double sided' costs more that one 'pretty' side. Decent concrete footings cost more than building straight on the dirt, or on older footings. Site access for material can also increase costs; obviously it's cheaper to tip a large truckload of stone near the intended wall than to bring several smaller trucks or even push it down a narrow access is a wheelbarrow. Your neighbours may moan if a huge pile of stone suddenly arrives near, but not on, your piece of heaven. Finally, the type of stone, colour of mortar and amount of detailing (such as pressing small stones into the mortar) will quite justifiably affect your quote. Ask several different contractors, and go to see what they build. Good luck.

Yes, do go and see what they have already built and make sure it has withstood the rains. My neighbours stone wall, built this year, has come down twice this year, currently still down

Hattikins, whoever you go with insist on foundations for your wall otherwise you'll be re-building it after the next heavy rains. Sounds obvious but not many builders bother out here, thus many walls falling down.
