Have you ever wondered why you can live on your land between the sea and the mountains?

Here's why and how (click link): http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/Cyprus_rising_72_90.jpg

... and what exactly did you edit Hans? - this is a copy directly from one of Bill's books.

RE msg 2,m Jetski: (...) this is a copy directly from one of Bill's books. (...)

=> Indeed? No it is not. The source is given, but I removed the handwritten text (couldn't scan it as grayscale, it remained too vague when converted to 72dpi) and used Photoshop and Graphicconverter to edit the text. And your point is?

By the way, Jetski, you do know that it's not allowed to have more than one identity on this board? Ask the landlord of the Aeria Bar about it.

Hans

I did not realise you had another 'cyber stalker', still I am sure Jetski means well.

Don't forget free beer for you next time.

My point is Hans, that you are passing off Bill Dreghorn's work as your own (albeit saying that you have 'edited' it). And I have only a single forum identity - I'm sure an admin has the necessary access to confirm. I'm not 'stalking' you. Just ensuring that you take the whatever credit is due to you. Stop being paranoid.

You're splitting hairs, Jetski/John. As usual. Paranoid? I don't need such advice from anonymous "contributors".

It doesn't seem to me that Dutch Crusader is trying to pass anyone's work off as his own. He has cited his source in the diagram and it's clear to a reader that the drawings were done by William Greghorn. To edit text so it is readable only enhances and clarifies the document. I guess ideally, Dutch Crusader would add the title of the book and date for copyright issues, but for the purposes of this forum, I think he's in good standing.

RE msg 8, KarmiGirl: There was no reason not to give additional information, but it wouldn't have helped in any way. The booklet is called "Rocks and scenery in the Kyrenia region", published in 1971 by "the Public Information Office on behalf of the Cyprus Council for Nature Conservation c/o Forest Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Republic of Cyprus)". It was meant to help promote the movement of Nature Conservation (a follow-up on the Council of Euriope's 1970 proclamation of 1970 as "Nature Conservation Year".

The 1971 booklet is long out of print and I only could buy it after a long search, helped my Turkish Cypriot bookhandler in London, who keeps an eye on 'all old and new books about Cyprus' for me. That's it, I hope this information makes everybody happy.

P.S. As far as I understand the late Dr William "Bill" Dreghorn, who spent many years of his life promoting Cyprus and who loved Northern Cyprus, like I do [more]

Jetski. Passing it off as his own? Well I did not get that impression.

Very interesting - thanks Hans.

Sounds like a great book to have in your library and a collector's item at that! I'm envious! I'm enjoying your historical postings and would like to thank you. Piques the imagination of what this magical island must have been like. Truly, I did not want to antagonize you, but rather was trying to be supportive.

Hans - sorry if I caused you any offence. In the halls of academe it is usual, if referencing somebody elses work to cite the source document - not leave it to the reader to find it. I'm sure you'd be upset if you found one of your publications on the net in 'edited' form without reference to yourself. Not griping - just saying what is professional. Thanks for citing the document in a later post. The book is available in the bookshop near the new Ledra St crossing. Dreghorns' publication 'Landforms in Kyrenia range' gives a more detailed explanation of the structures along the coast if interested.

[the uploading of this continued message was interrupted by a lost Internet connection: "Internjet"...]

, he would have been glad with all promotion of (Northern) Cyprus.

I find Jetski's suggestion of 'stealing his work' or a similar suggestion malicious and appalling. But I know that this member for one reason or another is not a friend of mine, which he has shown in other messages.

P.S. Dr "Bill" Dreghorn is (afaik) the only Westerner who in TRNC had a street named after him (Famagusta).

Does it matter where the information came from - Dutch is trying to be informative as is his walks around Kyrenia. Keep going, the more information the better because some people do put some useless or nasty text on the this site and I thought that being informative is better than slagging each other off!!

Actually Barbarians it DOES matter wher the info came from. If you quote info without citing a reference source and that info subsequently proves to be wrong, who ends up looking the prat?
