Is it worth it when there is such a shortage of water on the island. Come the summer with hosepipe bans I'm afraid your grass will soon be brown dust.

Our neighbour had a beautiful lawn - the trouble is to stop it dieing in the heat, you have to water it all the time, then you have to cut it every couple of days because it grows so fast

They now have gravel...

Dear Ocean..the truth is...every type of seed ( inc grass ) have different germination periods..could be a week..could be up to 3 ( only water at night...will not dry out quickly )

Tip....when the grass is grown..do not cut it too short....the roots are as long as the grass...if you cut it short..you have short roots...this will quickly dry out and go brown...the longer the grass..the longer the roots..more water ..more green! ( again...always water at night...if you water when sunny..this can scorch the grass..causing it to go brown and possibly die )

Why do you have to plant grass seed, depending upon what you want to use the lawn for, if its not for high traffic then plant alternative plants like clover or thyme. Less water and heat resistant. There used to be a house with a front garden on the way to the Courtyard on the same side which had a thyme lawn and it was green all year round. Just plant them close together and eventually they meet us to one big mass.

Or look for low growing alternatives grown in NC and plant close together. When in NC you have to think outside of the box and not what your conditioned to in UK.
