I wonder if anyone can enlighten me. I know that TRNC is full of fake foods, and it seems that because of trade embargo no authentic goods are available. Also I am told that McDonalds in Lefkosa is fake and therefore I presume that Dominos in Famagusta is also. How come that only certain types of trades and goods are likely to be fake, when it is possible to buy branded televisions, washing machines and fridges etc and these are seemingly proper. How come all the motor car main dealerships are represented in Lefkosa also. BB

I think the dominos in magusa is real......it's a franchise from Turkey, however I still don't understand how we have fake burger king n mcdonalds, although it all tastes the same and both have the same menus as the original burger king n mcdonalds.

I must disagree with the "Big Mac" version of McDonalds- its absolute crap. The menu is different and the service useless. Its overpriced too! WARNING- Dont go there!!!! I understand you can import any product to North Cyprus but as the country doesn't exist (internationally) then there are no piracy laws so copied goods are widespread. As for car/bike dealers I understand they are all franchises from Turkey or they simply pay for the goods before importing. Correct me if I'm wrong ;)

If you peel the stickers off a little bit that say Burger city (on the outside chairs) underneath it says burger king. a bit more useless information. Everyone will be in there next week peeling off the stickers

I reckon the threads gone a little off topic! Everyone debating the taste of fast food. I think the reason you can't find counterfeit cars is that they don't exist. On the other hand you can find the occasional Chinese imitation part. ;)

Sorry as for Counterfeit Goods I think it is a world wide problem that just can not be stopped, it seems as soon as they bring in measures to stop one thing they overcome it with another.

I was once told, approx 6 years ago, by someone who works up the 'food chain' at Lemar for the reason of Burger City/Burger King naming policy, I have also never known if this story is completely true or not but here goes: It appears that Lemar had approached Burger King and was well on the way to launching these fast food places at a couple of their branches when some very wealthy and influential Arabs heard about this and decided that it was not acceptable to put Burger King in an 'unrecognised' country and if Burger King were going to allow this, then Burger King would have to pull out of ALL the Arab countries, which as you can imagine would be a huge loss and one that Burger King were not prepared to accept. The reason for Arab stance was that they did not want to see any Burger Kings in another 'unrecognised' state ie Palestine, I think that was the country mentioned to me but my knowledge of politics abroad is abysmal so please allow for the mistake if I have the wrong cou

cont...d .....if I have the wrong country. This was very unfortunate for Lemar as they had already bought all of the equipment and even had the huge official signs shipped in but were told by Burger King that under no circumstances could they sell the Burger King name.

The closest thing I've had to KFC is in Girne called Spicy Fried Chicken (previously called Southern Fried Chicken) on the same road as Tosyalises near the fountain roundabout

Batterboy To answer your original questions there is no Trade Embargoes in the TRNC. Anyone can import anything from any country hence the reason why you can buy almost anything from Nike shoes to Heinz tomatoe soup. The counterfeit issue is a different one and is also a huge issue in Turkey where you can buy fake products quite openly although a "fake" McDonalds is something i dont think would happen there.
