As we have always used SKY who provide everything - can anyone tell me should I buy and bring over a wireless router, or buy one from the Internet Service Provider in Cyprus?

If yes and we need to buy one in the UK, which one do we purchase please? I have looked on the Internet but there are so many makes and models (with different functions) that I am totally confused.

Also, can anyone living seaside in Karsiyaka tell me which ISP they are with and if the reception/service is good?

Thanks in advance

We use a Lnksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G2 which we bought here, we had brought ours over from the UK (the one that links up to telephone line), but it was not suitable. You will find it cheaper to buy the router in the UK and bring over, once you have identified the actual type of router needed, in PC World or wherever, you might pick up a bargain on the net.

We are in Esentepe using Extend so cant advise about Karsiyaka reception.

Karsiyaka has been covered with ADSL for years, it was part of the original coverage area.

Not ADSL....it's Wireless connection that is poor in most areas of Karsiyaka, the signal is just too low.

Go to eXtend Broadband I understand they can use your land line and give you very fast connection for lower cost than wireless.

I am in Karsiyaka and receive very good internet service from Digital Supreme who also provide a T.V. service which I can also recommend. 2 years with Extend Broadband had me on the verge of an I.T. breakdown, I had considered going back to 'pony express post' until Digital Supreme came along.

Hi we are in Karşıyaka and also use the Linksys G Wireless Router (with a Mac), and it works fine. We're also with Extend, but the less said about that the better. The reception is good, it's just the company's customer relations - or lack of!

Yes but using a land line is a completely different kettle of fish... and as Yoz has a land line (lucky fella) he should take advantage of the speed he can get...

Hi Groucho;

Thanks for advice re extend,tho it was not for me but for a couple(father/mother figure) from uk,Cypriots nonetheless.They have a landline (no such luck for me yet in Lapta).Will go and speak to extend as well as it is costing them a fortune to keep in touch with their kids in UK by phone.They haven't quite worked out yet the greatness of the technology.Bless them.So far we managed to get a pc and wi-fi skype phone for them,but no internet yet. ......no no no....they are not Irish
