Hi all

This is my first post so please be gentle.

My wife and I are looking to retire to Northern Cyprus in 2013 or before if possible.

In the next year we are looking to rent an apartment for around a month or two in the Catakoy area as a short term try out.

The big question is if all goes well and come 2013 we decide it's the place for us, we are undecided to rent or buy, the title deed issue is one concern and the fact we could invest the purchase price locally and get a good rate of interest which would cover the rental.

Any advice is welcome

Firstly, you must spend time reading through many previous posts on this Forum and conclude jointly your own opinion what the risks are, too much to explain on the 'ins' and 'outs' in one reply. Secondly, if British passport holders look at Tahiti (It's in the EU), that's where I'd like to be however, I've dug my hole and too late, I'm laying in it, dommage!

Hi I have lived here for 7 years and dont regret a thing. My friend has a nice house just outside Catalkoy and she would rent it to you for a month. It would give you a chance to chat to the locals. If you are interested i will ask her how much. Its alovely place with communial pool.

It all depends on what you want and whether you see yourself staying here for the rest of your life. We have rented for the past 18 months and believe that it is the best decision that we have ever made. Even with the drop in interest rates, the interest we earn on our savings more than covers our rent and utilities with the added bonus that should we decide to 'upsticks' we can leave at relatively short notice and without the worries of having to sell a property in a what is still a very 'depressed' market.

If I can offer any advice, it would be to rent for much longer than the 2 months you have mentioned as I don't believe that this will give you a true indication of what life is really like here in the TRNC. 2 months in the summer is almost an extended holiday and is totally different spending time here in the winter which can be depressing to say the least ;-).

Good luck

Paul

Hi Deniz1 Could you find out for me also how much your friend would charge for renting her house in Catalkoy, we are looking for two months probably September and October. Not wishing to tread on toes of

your original interested person, but if times did not clash would be interest. Thanks.

Hi Gary , you can rent a house and if you like it you can then buy it , minus the cost off the rent.

By the end of the rent you will have an idea about living in NC.

If you need more information , send me a message please.

Thanks all for the quick reply.

I didn't realise some companies do rent to buy schemes, this sounds just the ticket.

I suppose all I need to now is learn to spell Catalkoy.
