President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that there will be no return to the past. President Talat – who is standing for re-election -  visited the Iskele region yesterday as part of his election campaign.

Speaking during his tour of the region, Mr Talat said that the Cyprus Turkish People has understood that it is impossible for them to return to the past when they think of the past

Claiming that the Cyprus Turkish People was not given the right to referendum between 2002 and 2003 and was excluded from the world, Mr Talat said the Cyprus Turks were declared as the intransigent side during this period.

Noting that the Cyprus Turkish People is no longer considered as the intransigent side thanks to the policies pursued, he said `the European Union is regretful to accept the Greek Cypriot Side’s unilateral membership to the block`.

Referring to tomorrow’s meeting between him and the Greek Cypriot Leader, President Talat said he wanted a joint statement to be issued on the points agreed so far at the talks but added that the Greek Cypriot Side has been opposing the idea.

So, obviously nothing has been agreed - why continue with this endless farce?

Can anyone think of a valid or constructive reason to do so?
