I think Chris Houghton has done a brilliant job at Newcastle. An unsung hero in my opinion . No big time charlie just an honest bloke getting on with his work ( even though he was an ex totteringham player ) .I hope they give him the job permanently , he deserves it .!!

Well having gone to the match (and every home game ) last night the general consensus amongst us supporters is that Hughton should be given the chance to manage the club in the Premiership. All the so called media football experts predicted we would be relegated from the Championship and our crowds would collapse to under 20 thousand. Whats happened??? Promotion and average crowds this season of 43 thousand. Feeling a little smug this morning> Howay the Lads!!!!!

Loulou - Shearer's probably the only manager that the fans would give time to bring success to the Club & if he hadn't been stabbed in the back by the fat shopkeeper (8 games was hardly enough)I don't doubt he could have achieved what Houghton has done. Houghton though deserves his chance and the only way Shearer would be brought back to manage the Club is if MA were to sell. But we're back where we belong and we'll see what the close season brings.

We need all the luck we can get for next season.I think that Houghton should be given the chance to see them into the Premiership and I dont think that Shearer would be so callous to take over after the hard work Houghton has put in.I just hope that Ashley puts his hand in his pocket,he cant be short of a few bob I read somewhere that he is doing a takeover of some fitness franchise. He owes it to the fans who stayed with the team who have kept there support during the bad times. Good Luck Howay-the Lads.

If you listen to the way the skunks are going on you'd think they'd won the champions league not the championship, it's funny how their supporters referred to the CCC trophy as a tin pot when their local rivals won it last, and listening to the way they went on on SSN they seem to forget the team they think is going to do wonders in the premiership is the same players that got them relegated, still it'll be nice to see them with egg on their face when they get relegated again

barnacle bill do keep up, My Cashley has told the skunks they are only getting £15 miillion to spend on players as he needs to pay back, the bank the £20 million he borrowed for players wages, and mishmash coild well be right with his prediction, as the gulf of class between a very poor CCC this season and the premiership is immense as the skunks will find out, hearing them bleating on about how good Carrol and Luvenkrands are mekes me laugh, they were the strikers they had last time they were in the premiership, they didn't do very well then did they ? so what makes them think they are going to be so fantastic this time around ? As usual the skunk fans are delusional at the very least, the only team I can see them beating is maybe the team that comes up via the play off's, don't forget West Brom showed them up twice this season.

msg 25, A dam good conclusion of events tattlad, I recon the only way they will survive next season is if Ashley flogs the club to an arab with a fat wallet, or they'll be up and down like a pair of whores knickers when the fleets in town. D.N

D.N. I can see them becoming a yo yo club, no one in their right mind would buy that club, what would you get for your money ? the ground it stands on belongs to the council, so it has no equity value, if it did all go ti*s up any investor wouldn't get a penny back, they couldn't sell the land or build something else on it as it wouldn't be theirs to sell, that and the face that the wage bill is more than they are earning (that's why Cashley borrowed £20 million to pay player wages) is not an attractive option, but that'll be why Cashley dropped his asking price from £200 million to £80 million and he still can't shift it.

Tatlad & Dixie - just keep on digging (& dreaming) - but you seem to forget that SMB is THE yo yo club - remember Sir Lawrie ?- for taking you down to the old THIRD division he was 'knighted' on Tyneside long before he was officially 'recognised' by the Queen for his services to football !!!

Dear Mr Normus,or may i call you Dick, Can`t take the yo-yo from Sunderland as it is a permanent fixture for your team, this season the line was stretched a little, however it will shrink back next season allowing the cream to sink back to the bottom yet again. Still never mind, how many derby matches have you makems won??????????

jimmyG & swyflotsam. £15 million is going to get you nowhere in the Premiership, even Don Hutchinson on Sky Sports reckons the Skunks are going to become the yo yo club of the north east, the same two strikers they had last time around will do even less than they did the time before, and the striker they've just bought from the CCC is going to set the world alight isn't he ha ha ha, oh! as for derbies, remind me who beat the Skunks 9-1 will you

Tatlad, I know Derby now hold the record but the SMB set the record they broke!!! Arrogance by the way is not the exclusive preserve of NUFC supporters - but I'm sure that the rest of the Premiership will be glad to see their home coffers boosted by the away support that both of our clubs enjoy.

Don't know if you've been keeping up but the away support has been cut to all grounds, and the local councils are setting the numbers now, anyone going to the SOL will only be allocated 1700 so bang goes that theory of your so called massive away support, and Sunderland's away support is bigger than yours was anyway.

Tatlad, care to back up that statement that your away support is bigger that NUFC's ?? -and while your struggling here's another unpalatable fact for you to digest - we've just beaten the record the SMB set for the highest attendance at a match in the Championship.

jimmyG, we don't you lot obviously think you have the right to be playing in Europe every year, and listening to your lot on SSN saying that they'll be in European football again season after next is definitely nothing short of delusional, we don't think we are still the bank of England club, but we do know it's going to be a long time before you lot can compete with us in the transfer market now

Tatlad, are you so naive to think that the views of those few 'crowing' fans on TV & radio represent the views of the majority of NUFC supporters - they don't - but the hardest part as the SMB's know only too well is getting back out of the Championship at the first time of asking, so as far as that goes - job done. I agree that whilst MA remains in charge the heady days of the big spending era of Hall & Shepherd are long gone - but you had to endure similar constraints during the Murray era so we are likely to have to endure much of the same until hopefully at some point he sells the Club, which in itself can bring its own problems eg Liverpool, Man U, Portsmouth. So we're back where we belong and look forward to resuming hostilities next year and the league table will then be a true reflection of our differences - but to be honest Tatlad, apart from about 4 other contributors to this particular thread we're probably boring the pants off the rest !!!

jimmyG. It's not just the ones on the TV, your so naive if you think it is, I'm sick of listening to it from every skunk I see, relatives I have that work at Nissan and Unipress and they have said exactly the same, like I said earlier, it's funny how when we won the CCC title it was only a tin pot, but now that you lot might win it they go on like they've won the FA cup, anyway if you do win it you'll have forgotten where the key to your trophy cabinet is it's been that long

Oh dear Tatlad you are sounding a little bitter & twisted - what's the matter frightened of having some local rivalry next year are we ? & please don't start comparing trophy cabinets because there is no comparison between the two clubs.

jimmyG, no ones bitter and twisted, we are just trying to point out the realities to you skunks that have your head in the clouds, you will be playing in the premier league with the same squad that got you relegated plus £15 million to spend, which as every sane person knows is not enough in the current climate on player prices, hence the reasonable assumption you will struggle badly next season, as for the bitter and twisted bit we'll see who that is when Steve Bruce does the double over you next season, again a reasonable assumption given that we will probably spend your whole budget on one player, that's the reality of it, as for the trophy cabinet it's a glaring fact that Sunderland have had more to put in theirs over the last 37 years...............

Tatlad I don't dispute your last fact but it's the quantity of trophies in there that proves my point that there is no comparison - FACT. As for the double next season lets just wait & see but again your 'derby' record against us just doesn't compare - FACT. Please refer to my last para in Msg.48 for my last post on this thread.

jimmyG. You've won nothing since the fairs cup, that inertoto thing you won was a certificate we've won that CCC cup on numerous occasions, it's not hard to do, our reserves have won their league title around 5 out of the last 7 times, oh yes then there was that F.A. cup in 73, but if you'd read the post it said (OF LATE) last 35 years or so, as for the derbies you may have won a few more but that will change soon enough, because as a club and it's signings we'll soon be out of sight as far as the skunks are concerned, The skunks will find it hard to find a buyer, because any investor will only get a wage bill for their investment, the ground belongs to the council, it's rented from them, the current wage bill is running at £20 million more that the club makes, no one in their right mind would buy into that, that's why it's going to be a long long time before you get anywhere near where you think you should be.
