Hi, Does anyone know of an Insurance Company where you can pre book insurance for travel to the North of Cyprus? We are looking at staying and hiring a car in Larnaca and travelling a few times to the North- crossing at Metehan or Ledra and would prefer to have bought my Insurance before I travel to reduce stress. Not even sure if this is possible? Or is buying at the crossings my only option? Thanks Anne

Anne hi even if you rent in larnaca you will still have to insure it to cross to the north, this can only be done at the border and the minimum is for one month, i think its 30 euro, if Im wrong someone will correct me xx

Thank you Lilli, I know I will need to get additional insurance, was just thinking about getting the extra before I travel- would be easier if I could get it all from the same place but life isn't that simple eh! ta Anne

The reason it is not so simple is that they would need the registration of the vehicle, I mean could you possibly know that in advance. Some car hire companies in the South can supply insurance for the North, I don't know who they are. A couple on our site often fly to Paphos and hire a car with North insurance.

You will need to check your holiday insurance as not all policies cover the north

This subject has been addressed on a number of previous threads and I recall one poster saying that they had arranged insurance prior to leaving UK. They hired through one of the international car hire companies and had to make it clear when booking that they wished to take the car to the North. Unfortunately I cannot recall which company they used but it might be worth enquiring with one or two of the major internationals before you leave. The downside is that the car hire is likely to cost more than a local hire.

Hi Anne, Not sure of your plans, but have you considered getting a bus to Nicosia (old city), then walk up Ledra Street to the Lokmaci crossing. You're then in North Cyprus and Turkish Nicosia (Lefkosa). You can then get a taxi or bus (dolmus) to various parts of the island. This link may help: http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/33837.asp

Msgs 1&6, AnneG, twoexpats, You are absolutely right. I posted several times here to say that I had collected a car at Larnaca airport and arranged in advance for insurance certificate to be supplied at pick-up. I booked it with yourway-carhire.com
