My first taste was on a cruise ship - fast food with a 50's type American restaurant setting. Red leather cubicles with a juke box on each cubicle wall. Must say that I can still taste the Onion rings after all those years.

lol.. yes doyen , must have been a royal carribean cruise ....... and i apologise to all those to whom it may not be their 'cup of tea' , its a business based venture and there are many whom are 'hungry' for branded franchises in 'brand' deprived trnc , especially among local tc'c , stuents etc , and certinly a market exists for such an enterprise.

Just what TC youth need... high fat, high salt fast foods to continue the downward trend in their erstwhile healthy Mediterranean diet... It's unfortunate to say the least that the early adopters of the business Westernisation of the TRNC are all the sorts of places one shouldn't want replacing old-fashioned healthy eating establishments. Nice idea to trick the students into eating crap by realising they are "'hungry' for branded franchises in 'brand' deprived trnc ..." and get them away from the awful fresh fish and ayran...

I do agree with Groucho about promoting and feeding kids high fat, low nutritional junk food, but when did making money ever come after health. However, ANY new venture that improves peoples perceptions about the Island, creates a 'feel-good' factor, helps create employment, and pays taxes has to be applauded. Good luck, and well done for taking the initiative to bring something new and 'happening' here.

Thnx jack , I admit although not the healthiest dining option , Johnny Rockets is not a fast food franchise , and we dont 'nuke' our meals in 45 seconds or so , its based on the american diner concept where the food is cooked properly from fresh , and its an open kitchen where u can see the chefs freshly cooking the food, we use trans free fat oil and our beef is 100% beef , no additives , its seaoned while its cooked. healthier options are catered for , for which we have a salads range & award winning veggie burgers .

Groucho got there before me. My question was going to be 'Will this help the world's obesity problem by increasing numbers of those with too high a BMi, OR WILL IT make us all healthier? O.K - it is choice, but Iwll come and do a write up. For instance 'im downstairs is a good honest 'cannibal' and cannot live without red meat. I am more of a peanuts for protein type. Good luck with the venture and I look forward to my invite for the opening! Oh yes, Gloria Jeans - you pay for Coffee Culture, but interesting that in Kyrenia, it is the one next door that seems to be doing slightly more trade. Is the coffee cheaper, I wonder?

Is anyone in the least concerned with the advancement of these sorts of establishments in North Cyprus and what they could do to the local restaurant business trade? One of the things I've always liked about the North is that there ARE NO franchises, that businesses are family owned and run and the food is fresh, not processed and made on site. What's next: McDonalds, TGIFridays, Pizza Huts everywhere?

the only reason for the lack of brands and franchises has been the international isolation . embargos and GC propaganda... as we head to a solution ... many brands will be queing up to enter the market ... if you want to avoid this karmigirl then you should support the non recognition and non solution to the cyprus problem . Unfortunately or fortunately . whıch ever way you look at it .. any solution will inevetabley mean the opening of trnc to the international community .. Thnx sımbas .

quote '' Johnny Rocket's Streamliner According to VegCooking.com, Johnny Rocket's Streamliner earned a PETA Golden Bun Award as the #1 veggie burger in the land, from a chain restaurant anyway. The judges claim that this is the burger to convert someone to vegetarianism, as it is that "meaty." So if one still wants to enjoy the shakes, malts and the singing staff of this 50s styles diner chain despite being a vegetarian, they can thanks to the Streamliner. And, that's pretty swell.
