Hi All at about 2pm today a young man speaking very limited english came to our front door , he was carrying a charity box with a hand written statement attached. It read as follows (as far as I can recollect)..We are collecting cash donations for our friend who is confined to a wheel chair your charity will be most appreciated. Thank You.!!!!. I asked a couple of questions to try and establish if he was genuine, he was unable to satisfy my curiosity so I did not give.. Felt a little guilty at not giving a donation but justified, has anyone else had a visit with the same or similar charity donation request?.. We live in the Catalkoy / Ozankoy area.

You shouldn't feel guilty as you have no idea if this is genuine or not, after all what would you do if you were in the UK? Probably the same. Vicki

Msg 1 Having just read your posting we literally have just had a visit from a young local male and female who also showed us a hand writen note. It was very hard to understand but said something about football in Turkey on 21st July. They showed us a ticket and wanted us to buy it for 5TL. I know that the locals have to have an official stamped letter from the Muktar when doing door to door collections and when I asked if they had a letter....they left very quickly.

Hi gottheyips, Now you mention it, when in a shop on Sunday, I noticed the till girl making up some kind of donation box, with a slot for coins etc. It had what I assume was wording in Turkish on it, and she was in the process of selotaping it up. Didn't give it a thought, until I read your post. Could be a new scam on the go. Off to make my own box up, will be out and about collecting for something or other tomorrow. See you for a drink or two after that )) Navek
