Laconic Computer... Go thru Çatalköy from the Lefkoşa roundabout, just for a hundred meters and it's on the right hand side.

Could be a thousand and one things but have you checked to see if the fan is going round? The "funny noise" may just be the fan stuck on your PSU (chit-chat caught in the blades?) or full of dust and will not turn. If the noise is coming from that area I would certainly look there first. Working parts, when they work, will cause noise and the only working parts you have are the PSU, hard drives and disk drives. Hard drive failure may stop your PC from booting up but you should still get a failure message to say you have no hard drive. Disk drives won't stop your PC from booting up but a bad PSU will fail to give enough electrical power and certainly stop your PC from booting. If you have a buddy with a spare PSU then I would try that first to save you spending your hard earned at the PC repair shop!

I have nothing but praise for the guys at Laconic in Alsancak - they're solved several issues for us quickly and cheerfully, and at no monstrous cost!

spud50, sorry, the PSU (power supply unit) is behind the hole in the back/side of your PC, normally when the PC is on you can feel air coming from the grid that covers the hole. Lurking behind the grid is the PSU and as they are subject to failure in heat or with lots of dust, it is always the first place to look. Never try to repair them just replace them or you are buying into more trouble. Working parts - well they work or move! Most things inside the mystery box don't move at all and contrary to popular belief, they don't often fail either if you leave them alone. RAM or random access memory is solid state and has a tendency to fail from time to time but you would only know that if your PC suddenly started to act strange!!!!! Hope you get it fixed and would love to know what Laconic says it was.
