You'd better book in Kyrenia - far less prostitutes. On the other hand - there are possibly more bars in Lapta. Dilemma! Maybe you could check Alsancak (between Kyrenia and Lapta). Few prostitutes and some nice bars! Hey, about that?!

Close your doors and stay inside, Dereny. Lapta is even more terrible than the 'Red Light District' in Amsterdam. From a friend I heard that there's also a HOMO spotted in Lapta..! Be careful!

Dereny - Dutch has obviously got the devil in him this afternoon Lapta is fine - it is in within reach of some good beaches, there is the Waterpark for the kids and there are plenty of restaurants and family-friendly bars nearby. To read the posts here you'd think you were headed for downtown Harlem - don't worry, you're not Have a good holiday. Jean

Dereny its just fine in Lapta, you will enjoy it far more than staying in Kyrinia, it has some really wondeful places to eat, and most are child friendly. Dont know about the prostitute or lap dancing, unless of course you mean the night clubs around the coast, but they are in most countries if thats what you are looking for! Its a very chill out place to holiday, loads of nice little coves, lovely drives, lovely eating places.......Enjoy it you will........

Dereny, believe me (who else could you believe?). Driving from Kyrenia to Güzelyurt you'll pass through Sodom and only a couple of miles away is Gomorrah - and I'm not even mentioning the stretch between Karşiyaka and Geçitköy! You can see the whorehouses from the road there! Don't do it! P.S. Sometimes it's sooooo difficult to believe that questions in a number 1 post are serious...

Lapta is fine and the La has been revamped and is good also. There are some good bars ie the hut, the cabin, celebrity hotel, sunset beach is good for entertainment and swimming, lapatos hotel has a water park and the beaches are safe for kids like the rosys bar and restaurant. You are not far from alsancak where again there are some good beaches and bars etc. Come and have a good time and dont listen to some of the the whinging brits that live here.

Dereny, Lapta is lovely. The water park is only a walk away for the children, there are lovely beaches, restaurants and bars all within walking distance. Just wish we could spend more time there rather than just using it for holidays. Have a lovely holiday. I'm sure you will be a returning visitor. Linda

So. Here's the cynic. Some lady books a holiday for the whole family in Lapta, TRNC, obviously not knowing anything about the destination - until some friend in Kyrenia warns for horror and disaster after the booking. And we - no, I'll talk for myself - are led to believe that..?! It's a long time ago I was called naive.

I'm taking my car to garage in Broadstairs tomorrow for some work to be done. Must have a better look around and get that comparison with Lapta. Will it be at the top of the hill looking down the high street or outside the Tartare Frigate looking out to the beach. Nah, your right Jeannie hard to get that mental picture!!!!

Hi don't worry Lapta is just fine. Can i reccomend a family friendly bar and restaurant for you to try out. Zeki's Bar is on the main road on the left just 100 yards past the hotel Sempati turning heading from Lapta towards Karsiyaka, we offer a selection of local and imorted spirits and beers and a menu offering both english and cypriot dishes. Open 12 til 12. We have a large outdoor seating area and childrens playground. A warm welcom is guaranteed. x

If you can slow down and enjoy the pace Lapta is great. The LA is on a small area that has become known as 'The Strip'. Nothing to do with the ladies of the night, they tend to be in the 'night clubs' and do not ply their trade on the streets or bars in or around Lapta. Take your time and go for slow walks inland to the villages the kids will love looking at the lizards, goats etc and the local children are lovely and very polite. I love my walks inland to sit and have a real kebab and watch the world go by and if you don't fancy walking back the dolmus is cheap and very cheerful. TRNC is a very different holiday from the razz of Spain etc. just relax unwind and enjoy. Yes there are problems with dumping litter etc. but the good things far outway the bad. Can't tell you a lot about your hotel other than it is very pink, but have met people who have stayed there and were happy with it. Please don't let the wind-up merchants put you off, I love it and can't wait to go back.

this is getting ridiculous - im a genuine person who as dutch crusader quite rightly points out in message 32 that i wrote asking about the l a lapta in 2009 then after excellent feedback i booked it for this year. My friend went out there on Saturday meant to stay for a fortnight and has booked to come home tomorrow cos he said it is so dirty. he went to lapta for me and said if he were me he would cancel. i think Richard may have a point...as this man is the only "wind up" on this when i really did genuinely want positive feedback.

Do you know..............I really cannot understand all the cr''''''''''''''''''p that has been mentioned on this post. We've lived her for nearly three years, not only us, but our family. My grandson goes to school in the next village, Alsancak. I have NEVER seen a prostitute walking the streets, not like in Paris. Yes, there is rubbish scattered in some places. But the views of the mountains, the sea, just takes my breath away every day. The people here are just so friendly and accomodating. If you want pure paradise, wherever that is, (for me, it's here), try the Bahamas or somewhere. BUT, my grandson at 5 years old, knows what a shepherd is, (not just from the Christmas carol) He loves looking at the clear skies, watching the stars at night. Is healthy from the fresh air here. Is aware that he is a lucky boy, as there is a lot of poverty here, though, not as bad as Africa or Sri Lanka. cont.

It maybe just the best holiday you could give your children, educate them, show them just how fortunate they are. To watch children playing hopscotch, playing with a tyre, brings back to me the values in growing up. Hey, it is just so easy to go buy a toy, or plonk a computer game in front of his face, but to see a child entertain himself, and enjoy himself in that way, to me is the right way to live. I really hope you enjoy your holiday over here.............saying that, I dread the day the 'tourists realise how lovely it is here, and God help the day the 'lager louts' discover us.

Clarissa2 -as you have pointed out before, we rarely agree. However............. Does it ring any bells with you viz a viz "Uncle Ted"? Where are the elusive weirdos? They were, apparently, due to arrive in Lapta on 3 April. They offered to meet us for a drink there (incidentally, we live in GB and not Lapta when we are there) and, along with Hattikins, he very kindly send us a photograph of his medals. No, I didn't get it either. I was called all sorts when I tried to point out that The Loonies had posted before, to some distress to others, who had gone out of their way to help. Or, could they still be in transit from Malta? I doubt that, since they told all and sundry that there were arriving in 'Larnika' on an Emirates flight. Perhaps Groucho could let us know? Incidentally, Groucho, the book you have received and paid for (and which I sincerely hope you enjoy it) will only become a "first edition" when it become a rareity. Good luck.

The paranoia on display within this and other threads is truly outstanding... some of you really need to get in touch with the real world. Uncle-Ted is banned, why his offence is of such magnitude that no reprieve is forthcoming only the mods can answer. Given the rapid rehabilitation of others I'm puzzled as to methodology employed. The mods claiming regular reviews of banning orders and all. However as he is banned he can not answer any of your points even though you all still seem fascinated with him... it's so easy to pick on someone who can not answer back. Kim and Neil are banned, why their offence is of such magnitude that no reprieve is forthcoming only the mods can answer. Ditto. Jeannie, A first edition is a first edition... the less copies it sells the rarer it will be... so your point is axiomatically illogical.

I suggest this thread is ripe for closing as 1. It's been hijacked by the mob, and 2. The question has been asked and answered...

Good morning Linnyloos, thankyou, if circumstances allow it, don't leave it too late to come here. We wish we'd done it years ago, saying that, I don't want to appear greedy, but it is a lovely life, warts an' all.

Groucho Even you have to admit it's a bit suspicious this persons friend arriving here in Kyrenia on Saturday and leaving this morning as the roads are dirty!!!! Roads by their very nature are dirty as trucks, cars, buses etc travel on them. 48 hours in anywhere isn't long enough to make a judgement on a place in my opinion. Chris
