Hi, Can anyone tell me what the difference in wireless internet connection speed would be if it was changed from 512 Kbps to 1024 Kbps in TRNC. Would the PC connect to the Net at twice the normal speed, is Skype any better etc? Any info appreciated, upgrade is 15 tl per month. Thank's in advance Navek

Hi Navek, I have 1024 kbps with NetHouse and it is very good, I did use 512 kbps but it was a nightmare just like dial up but I suppose it depends on what you want it for. I use Skype with no problems, and I also connect two laptops and a play station 3 with no problems. The PS3 is also played with friends from USA and the UK using the online gaming and it is all running good. The charge for this is 95TL per month you may get it cheaper but I am only off once a month if that and that is only for a few hours so it depends on how much you need the internet to work. Hope this helps any more information needed please come back to me. Regards. David

I use Extend and am on 512 and have no problems at all, I thought I was on 1024 until I went to pay my annual fee last week - thats how good mine is. I dont in fairness download films but files or photo files plus things like youtube are very good. A friend of mine is with Nethouse on 1024 and with an internet speed test often gets around 300 whereas mine is normally about 500. Might have something to do with location also. Extend are doing a really good offer at moment for all speed connections.

Dear Navek, My experience with this, where my PC knowlege and skills are very limited, is that increased kbps has, over a sustained period, given me very significant increase in speed. 15 lira seems very reasonable it you gain the same improvement in service. Though I understand little regarding the technology involved it does seem that the increase in speed is sometimes not so noticeable when visiting what must be very busy sites such as BBC news, sport, etc. Anyway, best of luck. Have been with Extend for over 5 years apart from a brief and disasterous flirtation with G3 or whatever it is called.

Nick, "Internet Speed - 512 Kbps v 1024 Kbps in TRNC?" That would be IN TRNC! Guess you missed that bit or are working for the government.

I believe 2048 is the fastest for WDSL, Nethouse do an ADSL 4096 offer but if you don't have landline (that stays connected permanently) it is no use. Ref msg 4. It does have to do with location, I have upgraded to 2048 with nethouse and I still am lucky to get 300 mbps when downloading. If your friend is getting 500 with a 512 connection it is an absolutely perfect connection with next to no losses, very lucky with a wireless connection (I didn't actually think it was possible) Paul

1024 is definitely twice as fast if you are downloading TV or movies. I cannot say I have noticed much difference when simply accessing websites though. I have only had 1024 as opposed to 512 download for a few weeks, but it is worth it & very little extra cost, only 16 TL per month.
