My estimate is that about 200 expats attended and no they weren't all "old" people you young roister doister. Haven't you heard of "silver surfers" ?

The PM gave a speech touching on the BRS questions and then answered questions from the floor including from Marion Stokes & Bob French and others on specific problem areas. The AGA situation was also raised by a representative of the group. I believe that the BRS will give a run down on this either on their web site or at the imminent AGM.

If you're interested in what happened there, maybe you should have taken the trouble to attend or sent a representative !

It would be nice to know if it was WORTH going, very few of us have a vote, perhaps citizenship is just around the corner....ha ha!

without the remote possibility of a vote why on earth would you want to listen to pre-election speeches?

malsancak. Why on earth would you think he would give a pre-election speech to non-voters ? That seems a quite daft notion and clearly was not the intention.

He knows that the economy here depends a lot on the expats and visitors and is keen on quelling any fears for the future that may exist. The BRS is very active in its contacts with him , the Prime Ministry and government officials on our behalf. If one doesn't support that, then one deserves what one gets.

The issues that we all have can only be solved by dialogue with the powers that be. By this desire to meet with us personally and through the BRS, Prof. Eroglu is showing his intention of doing just that !

Possibly because the press were there? I support any action from the government which prevents an 87 year old pensioner being evicted from their home

Was that mentioned?

malsancak, Why did you not go and ask the question regarding evictions yourself ? And yes the question was asked regarding mortgages taken out by builders. Your interest in that is a little late now ! Why weren't you there to support that particular issue ?

The BRS is the most competent and effective organisation to progress our views with the government on events here. But it can only be productive if supported by the expat community. If you are not a member of the BRS and/or do not support their efforts then you are riding on other peoples shoulders.

Geejay, are you saying that if I went along to the meeting and asked a question that it would make a difference? I wish I could find time but I'm sure the NCFP would carry your report if you wanted it to.

Having a vote would make a difference, what's the BRS position on that?

I see that the BRS "progress views" - what's that when it's at home?

How "effective" have the BRS been in relation to property matters? Is it my imagination or have the HBPG been more effective? Perhaps it is just poor BRS public relations which makes me believe this?

MarieB gives a very good response to this question on the other Pia Bella thread. ie it was a waste of time!!!

As for the BRS, they are also a total waste of time.

How can they be the most effective and competent organisation as commented by geejay, there membership consists of less than 5% of the foreign residents in this country. This figure includes most of the old raj who have no interest in people with problems cos they are all quite happy to go to all the funtions in their best bib and tucker and press the flesh. The rest just join to get the benefits of 10% discount in various establishments.

How many individual people with housing problems have Day & Coles etc dealt with - NONE!!! They go for tea and biccies with president and PM but do they spend 5 days a week trawling around the country as Marian Stokes does - NO!!!! Were they at Sun Villas protest last year when an auction was stopped - NO!!

Need I go on. BRS really showed their teeth on Monday - NOT!!!!!

The government here have an untapped wealth of voters if only they would wake up and give us citizenship automatically say after 5 years full time residency and also free!!We are not all wealthy retireese as they seem to think. And we spend our hard earned money here and support the economy.
