In the places worst affected by Europe's economic crisis, unemployment and cuts in pay and public services are hitting the headlines. But the crisis is also having another effect with profound long-term consequences - the return of emigration. Places like Greece and Ireland thought the good times of the last decade or two had finally ended the cycle of emigration, with the brightest and best youngsters no longer feeling they had to move away. No-one believes that any more. Now many young Greek and Irish emigrants, despairing at the state of their home economies, feel forced to head for the exit, just as their parents and grandparents might have done. Europe is no longer the newly happy and prosperous economic family they hoped their countries had joined.

Re: Msg.2, What does euro have got to do with the emigration? UK is without the "dreaded" euro, but is a dreadful country to live in, hence exodus en masse of the population for many years now.

The Euro imposes a straitjacket on your country,no more freedom to raise/lower rates, devalue etc,you have to behave like a northern european country, does not work in the south with its corruption, nepotism and neo communist attitudes.

Keith I think corruption and nepotism exists on both sides of the Green Line. Just check out the amount of personnel changes that occur in the civil service when the political parties change in the TRNC. Nepotism in its purest form !! Paul
