President Mehmet Ali Talat – who is standing for re-election has said that people should think about their future, not just today when deciding for whom to vote. The President’s words came at an election rally at the Inonu Square in Guzelyurt last night.

In his speech, Talat – an independent candidate for TRNC President, said that tete-a-tete talks are taking place all around the world and that there is nothing to be exagerated.

He added that Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu – the UBP Presidential candidate – has never conducted negotiations and does not know the techniques of the talks.

He called on the people to think about their future, not just today when deciding for whom to vote, adding that the result of the election will also affect Turkey’s EU membership process.

`A peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem is essential for Ankara’s EU membership process`, he said.

As part of his election campaign, President Talat also attended a reception hosted by the Girne Municipality for foreigners living in the TRNC.

Later, he toured some villages in the Girne District.

Speaking during the visits, Talat said that the people will choose between `the past and the world`.
