Hi Presumably if you buy a car in the South you have the same rules as if it is from UK i.e. you can drive it for a year & then have to pay the duty? Does anyone have direct experience of owning one & using it for a longer period & do they check it at the Turkish Border at all when crossing back over here? Any info appreciated Thanks

As long as you have insurance for both sides its ok. My friend has a greek cypriot reg. Lives here works in the south each day. They have questioned her why she travels back and for so much on greek plates but she said that she worked in the south they didnt seem to mind.

I have been told that if you have access to the use of a southern address you can register the car there. You then need to take the car back at least every 90 days and it remains a southern registered car. As above you do need 2 lots of insurance in force all the time. Might be incorrct but came from a good local source.

Hi Thanks for your input do you know if there is any limit on the amount of time you can do this for? I do not work in the South & only go over for shopping/airport trips do you think I might have a problem being a Temporary TC Resident? Thanks

I know someone that has a South registered car, all details are registered at a friends address in the south. she goes once a year to renew her insurance and makes the odd trip across the border. you only have to drive across the border turn round and come back again. of course you need insurance to cover use in the TRNC. its all dependent on you 90/60 days visa
