My friends are visiting our apartment in august and are keen fishermen. They are at TBV at esentepe and I would be grateful for any info re reservoirs nearby. Have read the site and licences are mentioned and also a reservoir near Valley View restaurant but they wont have a 4x4 so any advice would be appreciated.

Turn left opposite Valley View onto a dirt track. Follow the dirt track for about 100m then take a right near a small farm. This track will take you to the bottom of the reservoir-park your car(no need for a 4x4) there and walk up a steephill on the right -the top of the hill over looks the reservoir.Plenty of carp and stunning views-going there tomorrow at 6am.I don't think you need a licence to fish. Good luck and I hope you find it. Art

RE msg 2, magicart: (...) I don't think you need a licence to fish. (...) => Art, sea fishing (rocks, beaches, boats) is free, but for the reservoirs you need a permit.

Magicart,I think that track has been ploughed over, last time I went I turned left onto the track opposite Valley View and followed the tarmac road on the right up to the house and turned left at the house gates onto the track and it takes you above the lake on the right hand side.

we call the said reservoir " arapkoy" . ive had a carp over ten pounds last october . caught it on method feeder using 6mm maple syrup boilie . the farmer has blocked the dirt track that takes you to bottom of dam wall , he seems to have built a wall . i simply turned right 100 yds before the old dirt track its a tarmac road that stops at a villa , branch left its a bit rough ( i went in a hyundi matrix) and it takes you above dam wall all you do is climb down , best pegs are opposite side from where you will park your car . tight lines andy

Sweetcorn usually works well, try float fishing just a few meters out, the water at Aropkoy is at top level at the moment so good depth around the margins. Vary your depth if no bites after half hour or so and change bait. Worm works well if you can find them this time of year! Watch out for snags if fishing on the bottom, loads of submerged bushes and reed beds at the moment. Never had a great deal of luck using specialist carp bait here, but still put one rod out with 12mm pellet, all double figure fish caught on sweetcorn or worm so far.

Richard the word is coarse, you'll have that dotty old bat on your case again was going to start fishing, now I've time. Heard fish were easy to catch because they're stupid. Even more stupid than chickens. Then I remembered Rocky. Chickens aren't easy to catch either. Gonna get me a gun instead Tony |

Superb humour, msg 9, 10 & 11. Exactly what was needed to spoil another thread, where some people try to exchange some information.

Could it be you are a bit miffed with Brinsley for drawing attention to the money you make on your "FREE" walks. You may recall the holidaymaker enquiring about the LA hotel, Lapta, and the helpful replies that you posted. I don't suppose the same rules apply to you. Tony |

Hans What is wrong with you at the moment? You really are becoming a supercilious old fart lacking any sense of humour which you once had! I, more than many, make spelling errors, become Malaprop etc etc but so what? I've yet to reach 'Peter Perfect' status! Richard

I'm sure a serious thread about fishing can be continued somewhere else - on bulletin boards east and west of Girne. Where members don't feel the need to write in every thread whether they understand, like or care about the subject.

Hi Andy F. I think we met last week at Getcakale lake and spoke briefly about the carp fishing. You mentioned the lake at Genendere so I went up and had a look around. There were several large herons in the margins and I only had time to check the access and plumb the depths. To the left of the access point the water is 12 - 14ft deep straight in front of you then shallowing out towards the middle. I didnt see any fry but there must be fish. Im waiting till it gets a little cooler and then try my best. Tight lines

hi brian re mess 22 . i knew the lake at gonedere had good depth but didnt think it was fourteen feet . anyway my vague directions must have worked ! when i went in new year there was four cormarants on it so another pointer that it holds carp. im out again in a couple of weeks for three weeks so ill be having a chuck or ten! i found the lake at mersinlik but access is very dangerous and the water level right up in the trees so it seemed impossible to fish it but i found a way down so when im out ill fish it if level has dropped . keep in touch pal , if you want to send me a e-mail andyaerial@blueyonder.co.uk . andy

Thanks for the reply Andy. I havent had the chance to re visit Mersinilik but I agree about the access. Ive looked on Google Earth and theres a second route in. You need to turn off the coast road about 500 mtrs before the Mersinilik junction and go onto the new (gravel) road. According to Google theres a dirt track on the right just before the lake and about 2oo mtrs before the road block (boulders placed by the road developers) That takes you to the west side of the lake. Havent sussed it out yet, if I get the chance in next 2 weeks I will let you know. Been out today where we met and had 36, lost 2 big ones, but all on the waggler 2 rod lengths out and fishing 9ft deep. Fished 7am til 1pm. Hopefully getting a new pole delivered next week. Cant wait. Brian
