Is it possible to get to Turkey by train? Has any one done a journy across to Istanbul, we dont fancy driving, as with many others, but may look at different ways to get to NC if this volcano stays being bad tempered. Any ideas any one please...

Hi, I have also been thinging of alternative ways to get to Cyprus and found this; http://www.seat61.com/Turkey.htm Also, if there are enough of us who need to travel, perhaps we could look into hiring a coach and driver- what do you think?

Hi Lili, Im fine, just very very busy with pre sales etc, trying to get up to date before our hols to NC! Didnt know Tom did other travel, thought it was just the sky. I certainly will email him and ask the question. Sounds like things were just picking up for you when this 'little blighter' blows a wobbley, its the 'big one' that may blow and cause more probs so thought better start to look ahead. X

There used to be a bus service called Merry Travel that started in Lefkosa and travelled to Haringay for £100 return. My son used it numerous times, and had a great time. They played Turkish music, brewed up the Turkish Coffee, and danced in the aisles. It took 5 days and nights. You had to take your own food, but everyone just shared it out anyway. Unfortunately they ceased to trade in the late eighties.

It'd be nice to drive from the uk to here and stop off for a few days in every country you drive through.

I wonder how many people are due to fly out to TRNC and back to UK within the next couple of weeks and whether it would be practical to try to arrange a coach, should the problem not be resolved soon. A bit of a 'straw poll' might be usefull - or does this need a whole new thread?

| Lots of our friends stuck here in Antalya.Danish.Dutch and German. Not a lot of chance of getting back for quite a while I think.Have used the info from Seat 61 to book a sleeper from Luxor to Cairo and back. All info was spot on.London to Istanbul and onto Girne should be a good journey.Wish it was me. | I've been looking at coaches from Mersin to Istanbul, daily around 6pm for 65TL, journey takes 12-14 hours depending on coach company. Our daughter has AS level exams starting on 17th May so would really like to get back for them! It looks like it would have to be trains from Istanbul to London unless anyone knows of coaches that do that bit too. |
