Due to flight situation we are driving to the TRNC on Wednesday. If anyone has done this trip and can make it easier, I would welcome their help ie what is the best crossing by ferry from Turkey? Are they running if so when? What do the tickets with a car with two people costs, any problems we may run up against on the way down? Ideas for places to stop off on route.

Dear Carol050560: Try the search word " wheels" or " UK <-> TRNC: on your own four wheels " in the search window on top of this thread. You'll find that all or most of your questions have been asked and answered many times. Have a nice trip! P.S. A map to indicate the fastest (and most scenic) route here: http://tinyurl.com/bq3o4k

We made the journey by car to the trnc, arriving 3 weeks ago, so this information is more or less up to date. The route was via Luxemburg,Germany,Austria, Slovenia,Croatia,Serbia,Bulgaria then Turkey. We made a holiday of it and took 10 days stopping off on route. The distance from London was 2700 miles. The only problem was Serbia, they do not accept anybody's insurance other than their own, much like Turkey and the cost was 105 Euros payable at the border. Road tolls and vignettes were not so terrible. The crossing into Turkey was brilliant and only took 20 minutes. The road from Istanbul to Tatiscu is quite bumpy in places after Ankara. The ferry crossing as other people have commented on is an experience! Take original vehicle documents with you. This was not a cheap trip don't let anyone tell you it is, our fuel alone was a little over £500. Above is just a snap shop of the journey, if you want to know more, just ask.

My husband did it in February. Drove through channel tunnel - great, no problems, on to Rheims. On through Switzerland, Down through Milan to Brindisi - Brindisi ferry to Greece - Great Ferry Off ferry in Igumentisa (Greece) great roads, dual carriageways all the way (petrol in villages look for signs) Through Greece and Turkey to Istanbul - signposted all the way. From Instabul to Ankara - roads not as good, Loads of services/petrol stations Down to Mersin and then to Tasacu for the ferry - (crap ferry especially if it is delayed) Insurance from UK covered us through all EU countries, No problems no stoppages. Only had to get badge on car in Switzerland and insurance for Turkey (already had TRNC insurance in advance).

Hi as anyone don this trip with a dog in toe as by the time youve shipped the car and the pet it seems much cheeper to drive! What about toll prices on the way down as there must be lots. was looking at just going through france and into italy for car ferry so it kept boarder crossings to a minimum. Does anyone have any idea's please
