Hi just wondering what the general feeling is regarding the current flight cancellations and the effect this will have on people who rent out their villas, ie no guests arriving. Are you refunding, part refunding, rebooking (where/if you have any availability), or joining the insurance co's and opting out of responsibility A lot of travelers are being told that their insurance does not cover them as this is Force Majeure, and although a lot of airlines are willing to rebook free of charge where does that leave the villas? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have someone stuck in mine It isnt booked out again til 2/5 so they are staying there and I have agreed a reduced fee equivalent to my winter rate I hope the situation will be sorted before my next arrival however I dont think i'll be giving any refunds as the issue isnt in my control and at the end of the day its available for their occupation - the issue is one of transportation I like you however would be interested to hear what others think

Hi, My hubby and I were just discussing this over dinner. Our feelings are that a part refund would be in order but how do we know that the renters insurance won't cover cancellation of the accommodation? It is difficult to know what to do, I do feel sorry for these people but as you say it is not our fault that they cannot use the property. The butlers wife

I don't see any liability on the villa owner - it's the renters responsibility to get to the villa if transport is booked separately If someone missed their flights due to for example, snow blocking roads, it's the traveller's responsibility to have arranged insurance to cover this evantuality.

You can be sure that the people renting the property will have the other viewpoint on it. We have already encountered this with people booked on 2/3 day tours in Turkey who had to cancel them, they have been offered the same value any time this year with no extra cost and even then have started to complain to the Turkish Tourist Board and others too!

| Hi all, Just to let you know that our letting agency has been in touch with us this morning, asking us to reimburse any monies our renters have paid, or to offer them an alternative date. They are also asking us to let any renters that are stranded, to stay for nothing except a nominal fee for electric, water etc. As it happens we don't have any renters until next month and hopefully by then the problem will be resolved. | Blackpoolfan in my book charity begins at home or hopefully in Peterboro's defence on Saturday Who's your letting agency Butler's Wife? That cant be best advice for you as the villa owner Hopefully the problem is now resolving itself anyway however from what I hear the hotels arent giving out freebies to those stranded so why should villa owners? Also if you give another two week holiday to someone who cant get out now you are the one who loses unless its nailed on you wouldnt have let that period as well Sorry but i'm with Mark on this one ps I'll send any charity cases down to Olive Grove |

Butlers wife, sounds like your agency is up to tricks You have no responsibility for holidaymakers travel arrangements, that's between them and their insurance companies Sounds like everyone expects someone else to pick-up the tab for their problems - too many years of New Labour me thinks Mark

God and or other higher beings help you when you're British and renting in good faith from fellow-Brits - and get into trouble without your guilt. Fine help and understanding galore. With the exception of Blackpoolfan I'm glad not to know you. This thread: what a shame.

whatever Dutch but I have had many a thing done to me after helping people out so it makes you this way I am afraid to say. I have in the past rented my place out at a reduced price as a favour and that person abused that trust, and let two more into the apartment so 6 went to 8 people, wihout permission, all in an apartment that accomodates 6 so they took the piss basically of our good nature!! I spend a lot of my time helping others and get very little thanks, but I still do it, but there does comes times when you have to question things before you act once bitten twice NO

Sienna, I'd rather be disappointed for the umptieth time than discuss the sad circumstances of stressed people and how much to charge them on a bulletin board. "The British community". Yeah.

I wouldn't want to see anybody stuck and i would help them if i could. I can also see the other side as people have had their generosity abused and thrown back in their face. "Keep kicking the dog and it will bite back" springs to mind. Down to personal choice i believe

Hans Please be self effacing and see some humour from the Country you were born in and proud of. I do the same about NZ, sheep shaggers etc. which I totally endorse, the jokes as well! Anyway, as young as you are there is no way I'd ever hit you, I'll just bring out my bazooka! Richard

Diverting from the subject. Who cares what you think about me? I don't and maybe others don't either. I hope the batteries will last when you are calculating how much money you can make on your fellow-Brits. Probably "proud to be British" - may I ask why..?! |

If I was now a Hotelier (did have one in Bath) I would not charge any rack rate for the guests that were/are stranded having overstayed their initial booking period. Good PR as I would hope they may return sometime in the future. Just my thoughts as an ex 'business' person! Richard

It's a bit difficult to deliver the message to you, but it must be clear to you now. |
