On Sunday at a popular Lapta beach club a female expat resident was hit by a jetski, luckily she suffered just a knock on the head, the husband was furious and went to "kill" the little sh*t, the elder boy of the two told the husband to give the kid a break as it was his first time on a jetski and he was only 13, the 13 year old said to the husband in his LonCyp accent was "whats your f*cking problem it happens all the time in the South"!

The jetski was driven into the area that is cordoned of for bathers only.

So when will we have our first jetski fatality caused through negligence, I don't know if there are any laws on the age limit for driving these killer bikes, and if there are how they can be policed.

There is one thing I can guarentee is if a fatality does occur it won't go through the courts as the plaintiff will have already been suitably punished by family and friends of the victim. (that not a threat, its a f*cking promise)

Aslan,

I tought that you posted beautifully over The Gectikale Project, and I well respect your feelings over this incident, but there is a way to make your point without lowering yourself!

Perhaps you may choose to rephrase your moment of anger! Its your choice!

Aslan has got a point, these machines driven/ridden by incompetents all over the place. A few years ago I was diving off the coast of Anglesey, we were displaying internationally recognised surface marker buoys above the surface indicating 'divers below', and a pair of idiots on jetskis decided to weave between them. If I had been able to surface without risking my life, I would have taken the same approach and knocked their f***ing heads off.

Aslam, as for the language of the teenager in reply to your intervention, thats I'm afraid, the norm from teenagers of today when confronted with a remark on their stupid behaviour.

Yes Aslan - the unfortunate things that irresponsible people get hold of these things and in their hands they can be lethal. Not a big fan of them either - just something else making a noise and disturbing the peace!

Totally sympathise Aslan. Would ban them altogether if I could. No excuse

for the language & attitude of boy & the parent is worse, because he should have sorted him out severely if he was responsible, but evidently not.

Aslan,

I sympathise with you and although do not condone bad language, in the right place and time i it helps to get out you agression fine.

A suggestion, or 2. As a Cypriot you stand more chance of being heard, why not contact the Belydise in Lapta and tell them what happened. I am led to believe there have been instances of these idiots ignoring diving bouys as well as this.

Also why not jot off a couple of letters to a "sympathtic" newspaper or to radio.

Turn your aggression into something positive, maybe it will prevent someone being killed as that is what has happened already in the south a couple of years ago. The attitude of this clown to say "it happens in the south" is not appropriate, they have already seen the results and dealt with it.

Not a jet ski incident but similar caused the death of that great singer and song writer Kirsty MacColl a few years ago.

Thank you for your comments, sorry if my expletives offend, but sometimes they are required to get something of your chest.

Regarding using the media as a tool to express our concerns is a good idea, in this case I feel that the club owner has dealt with the incident by awarding the idiots a life ban from his club, although this won't stop them causing death and injury from another venue.

Apparently there are laws regarding the age limit, distance from coastlines e.tc that jet ski users should adhere to, however unless the general public, aided with a camera and note paper catch and catalogue the incidents who else is going to police this situation.

in my opinion. the parents don't do their kids any favours by defending them when they are in the wrong. it only teaches them that ma and pa will always get them out of trouble so they don't need to follow the rules. this happens in every situation. my way would have been to not let him on at that age on his own anyway. when your kids are wrong you have to punish them not stick up for them , a bit of tough love won't hurt them , but teach them right from wrong. and learn to be responsible for their own actions.

Glad to hear they have been banned from this club at least. I think also the

Belediyesi should take steps to prevent this happening again, anywhere along

the coast. It was a near thing this time. Next time may be fatalities.

Quite agree with ilovemydogs too. There's an old saying "Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind" Parents like that do no favours to their offspring who the rest of us have to deal with in society, both now & later.

I bought one a couple of years ago, asked around about licencing etc and was told that there is nothing in place here to regulate PWC's.

I took the RYA course in the UK (similar to a driving test), but it was the behaviour of other jetskiers that forced me to sell, great fun but very dangerous in the wrong hands 0-60 in 4 secs and 80 MPH top end with no brakes and no suspension.

I believe the legal age is 18... so the offenders in this case would appear to be those hiring out the jetskis... no surprise there... they just want the money.

No one seems to wear basic safety gear.. a bouyancy aid is essential in case of becoming separated from the craft.. possibly unconscious!

There is also an exclusion zone from the beaches not sure of the distance but they pay no heed anyway... I don't suppose anybody from the hiring company told them about the divers' marker to be avoided either...

It's a tragic event waiting to happen...

Yes - agree - the little jerk needs a boxing about the ears for his own good. And I hope panhandler is taking heed of this incident and discussion - jetskis are a total liability! Don't buy one Panhandler!

If I am not mistaken, I believe Kirsty McKhol the Singer/Artist was tragically killed by a jetski whilst on holiday abroad. Her Husband and Children witnessed it and had to rescue her body from the ocean floor.

So these Stupid Scroats need to take note and realise the danger and how lethal jet skis are if misused!

I just checked the details on the web: It was Kirsty McColl, She was hit by a speed boat (not a jetski) in Mexico in front of her children. They were swimming in an area reserved for swimmers only!

She was 41 and at the prime of Her life and Music career was starting to flourish!

Please pass this story on to children and adults!

I unfortunately witnessed a jetski accident in Pissouri Bay in the south 3 years ago when a 16 year old girl was killed by her 16 year old boyfriend in what was a horrendous tragic accident. It emerged that the lower age limit to ride a jetski is 18.

These things are not toys. They are quite big and not easy to handle for a young teen. How many parents would put their child on a sizeable motorbike and let them loose on the road?

Parents need to take some responsibility it is not only those who hire out the jetskis
