Um.....now there's a thought!

We donated the 95TL from the darts fine's to the old people's home.

Although they don't accept donations of money, they gave me a list of things that they needed.

I went into Girne this afternoon to buy the bits and pieces they asked for and had enough over for some traditional biscuits and cakes for the 29 residents there. On my return with the gifts, a table was laid up and I spent a couple of hours having turkish coffee and cakes with them in their day room.

Luckily one of the residents speaks perfect English so she translated our conversations to the other residents, the oldest being 92.

Humbling experience and a few tears on my parts especially when I was given hugs and asked to visit again.

That's great and very kind of you, many people forget the older generation, I myself use to work with older people as a social worker and also worked in older peoples homes in the UK for social services.

I remember feeling so humble in their presence and use to enjoy listening to what they did for a job, how long they had been married and other fascinating things about the lives.

Pity there is not a charity here to help with providing what they need I would certainly be involved.

Once again kind of you to think about them.

Thank you for your kind words James.

You are so right in saying that the older generation tend to be forgotten about.

What I did find uplifting is that the local school's visit on a regular basis and are taught to respect the older generation here on the island, something that was instilled in us as children but sadly lacking now a days in the UK.

Will certainly be paying a few more visits as I have a new found friend there by the name of Susan, a lady who speaks perfect English and is very interesting to chat to.
