Please be extra vigilant as we were broke into a few days ago and they stole cash only and covered there tracks very well as we only realised we'd been robbed two days later. We have locks on all windows & patio doors but they still forced them to gain access. We're quite close to the new hotel who are shipping in coach loads of Turkish workers to get it finished, coincidence??

Several burglaries in Hz Omer site, Catalkoy too, money stolen in all cases. The owners were all asleep and totally oblivious to the thieves in their houses. We are being more vigilant and suspicious of strangers around here now. Lock up at all times.

If I was a suspicious person I would call into question where about in Turkey these workers live? If, like most workers, they come from small and somewhat remote villages, then where have they received their "Cat Burglar" training and how did they learn to unlock doors and then creep about what must be a totally alien world filled with chairs and tables, to find "Wallets" and "Purses" that are not in normal use to them? But then I would only ask that sort of question if I was suspicious and wondered why burglary's always came on the increase when the tourist season started!!! Having had things I have dropped in the street returned to me by the same sort of Turkish workers, I will always try to find out more information before blaming them - I find them to be honest to a fault. Jasmina, no dig meant at you by this posting.

From my experience of living here for 7 years most break-ins are carried out by expats or their kids, after money to buy drugs or booze. I have many Turkish mainlanders as neighbours and they are ALL dead honest. Geoff Famagusta City

So sorry to hear that this is starting again, especially when the victims are asleep. There was a spate of this last year in Ozankoy and they seemed to have a pattern. They came in during the night and didn't seem to disturb anything, just looked around and took what they could see, only interested in money, jewellery, phones and cameras. In most cases if they found wallets, they just took the cash and left the wallet with credit and cash cards behind. The police never found any fingerprints, so they must have been wearing gloves.

How are they gaining access? - breaking in or have windows/doors been left unlocked? Facts only please about these burgularies, no guesses. Thank you.

In our case and with many of our neighbours, they came in through a TINY downstairs toilet window which they forced open. We now have bars on that window and a security gate on the back door, which we always thought was insecure. Other neighbours had the patio doors forced and another a window. These b@strds are determined, one of our TC neighbours almost caught a young lad on the upstairs balcony, but he managed to break free and jumped to the ground, he was hurt though as there was a blood trail. Now, all of us close and lock the shutters at night. We also bought a couple of motion sensors which we set at night just to be sure. I would dread to think what would happen if they were confronted.

kenny/Msg 12: Since my hands are registered with the police as 'deadly weapons', I feel I don't need any sort of 'anti-burglar' paraphernalia!
