| The current liquids restrictions on airline passenger hand luggage will be lifted within three years, the European Commission has pledged. The authorities have given European airports until April 2013 to install new scanners capable of detecting liquid explosives in cabin baggage. The EU says existing restrictions on duty-free drink and perfumes will be eased as early as next year. The new scanners will ensure that liquids are safe and do not include anything that could be used to blow up an airplane."By 29 April 2013 at the latest, all liquids will be allowed in cabin baggage and will be screened," the Commission said in a statement. A Commission transport spokeswoman said airports which install the new machinery before the April 2013 deadline can stop confiscating liquids from passengers. As a preliminary step from April 2011, duty free drinks and perfumes bought at airports or on board airlines and carried in tamper-proof bags will not have to be re-screened. At last! |

| So how will they check on binary explosive liquids then? Just a thought! Maybe they have not thought that far ahead yet but then they have 3 years to think it up I guess. Safer to walk! |
