| "Wilfried Martens took a more emphatic stand declaring that approval of direct trade could hinder the peace talks. His position, in essence, was not very different from that of the Greens and the Socialists back in Brussels who also agreed that direct trade could hinder the procedure. This was why assurances, that approval would be delayed until the end of the year, were given to the leaders of EDEK and AKEL." What??? Why would it hinder the peace process? Instead, they mean it would put TRNC on a more level playing field so they wouldn't have to be pressured into accepting ridiculous demands. Outcry about the direct trade agreement and the attempts to stop the regulation being passed by Greek Cypriots shows that they don't regard TCs as equals. Hardly the spirit of peace negotiations, is it? |
