Might sound like a stupid question but can the local people/economy cope with such a vast change in attitude, the culture here is just not used to having competition hence the reason so many people on here complain about over pricing.

Direct trade would be a good thing for TRNC, if they had something to trade! Imports (which are not effected by "direct" trade issues) far outweigh exports which seem to be limited to citrus fruits and dairy produce. Can't see it changing anytime soon, either.
