The lira today in turkey is 2.21tl to the sterling so we will only get 2.19tl here. Wonder if the shops will reduce their prices now, not...........!!!!!! What is happening with the sterling its really crashing all over.

It's not the Lira, it's the £ taking a nose dive, because of these clowns we've had in government for the last 13 years................

it is great for all those who make money through exchange rates!.....what a great time to sell ytl and buy sterling.....if you have your money in a high interest ytl account and you got 2.4 or more when you opened the acc....you may make more by exchanging it back?

The problem at the moment seems to be the sudden strength of the dollar V £ and euro. Or is it a problem?

No the pounds getting stronger, well it is against the euro, the euro is taking a nose dive because of the Greek situation!

Stewart, What will you get if you change from lira to sterling ? Although its around 2.2 for a pound....if you sell your lira then you would probably would have to buy it at around 2.35...or not.

I do not agree with Stewart about changing lira back to Sterling, but this was all discussed on another thread, Stewart can make his own decisions about this, but IMO he should refrain from giving advice to others.

Eager. The spread between buying & selling is nowhere near as high as you indicate. It is a maximum of 5 kurus with one bank, but for most banks here it is around 3 kurus.

Eg. Kibris Valkiflar. Buy 2.207. Sell 2.237. Kibris Turk Coop. Buy 2.212. Sell 2.243. Iktisat Bank. Buy 2.215. Sell 2.24. These are just 3 examples of today's rates, which are liable to instant change.

Every bank with branches in the TRNC, both Mainland Turkish Banks & Local Banks are listed on a page within the TRNC Central Bank website. Most have websites. The majority of these websites are now available in English & Turkish. Most show the current exchange rate on their home page. It is therefore very easy to check rates.

This is the link. http://www.kktcmb.trnc.net/ENGLISH/defaultENG.htm

Just discovered that the link does not take you to the page in English. I always use the Turkish page which does.

However if you select "Banks" on the LH side, you will reach the page, listing all the Banks.

The reason why the pound has dived over past few days is due to the expanding gap in the trade deficit!

Yes well done Labour another deficit thats growing that you have left us with!!

dear eager...the decision is yours of course...I bank vis the net with HSBC....the rate changes every 10 secs...you get what you see...and no..the spread is not that great perhaps 0.07....if you trade within banking hours...out of hours it is far far greater...to deter trading.

dear scruff..thankyou for allowing me to make my own decision..how kind and noble of you!

ps I am not advising others on what to do...simply stating what I am doing!

Try this website it is very easy to follow the trends.

For your currency RED arrow = falling, BLACK arrow = no change, GREEN arrow = Climbing.
