Sorry to be so critical. But Efendi is now just an average place to eat. Dont get me wrong about the food that we were served was good but nothing what it used to be like. The portions are still good size. The service was good all the staff courteous and efficient. However I really dont think it was fusion food. Below is a link to a restaurants website that serves fusion food http://www.themodernpantry.co.uk/our-cafe-dining.php Please feel free to shoot me down if you think I am talking out of place

Have you ever considered it just might have been an average meal? Have you considered that the mood you where in that evening may have contributed to the ambiance and therefore the dinning experience? This is a strange first post. It also fails to make sense. Did you express yourself at the restaurant or did you just slide out and come on here to be brave about it. Effendi's, myself never been but it is on my list of places to visit based on the good write ups it has received here and on other web sites. So there!! Your exercise failed , if that was what this is.

Still tops in my books Eric & haven't had what I'd call an 'average' meal there yet.

@Sal1262 My point is that food that was available wasn't what I would call fusion food. Hence the link that I posted which is a restaurant that does serve fusion food in my book. But then everybody has a different book. I know it me be strange first post, but hey we have to all start somewhere dont we.

OK, I will ask - what is "Fusion" food then? Is it the sort of food that needs to be thrown the the micro wave and submitted to "Nuclear Fusion" because it is straight out of a cardboard box or the freezer? Somehow the word "Fusion" has not got that feel good fresh food taste to it. Yes I did Google it and came up with - Fusion cuisine combines elements of various culinary traditions while not fitting specifically into any - so I guess that Fish & Chips with an egg covered in lemon sauce would fit into the term. Surely if you go to Effendi's, the mere name of which must conjour up thoughts of Turkey, you would expect to find traditional Turkish fare which would not fit into the term Fusion anyway. Not complaining about the post just interested as to why people come here to try the food they have enjoyed before and then have a go because it is not as they remember it. Oh for a good bowl of Me Hoon like I used to enjoy in 1965 in Borneo!!!! Or were Mars bars bigger then???

Fusion cuisine is general term for the combination of various forms of cookery, and the concept can take several forms. One approach is regional fusion that combines the cuisine of a region or sub-region into a single eating experience. Of this sort, Asian fusion restaurants have become popular in many parts of the United States, often featuring Indian, East Asian, and South-East Asian dishes alongside one another and offering dishes that are inspired combinations of such cuisines.

In Australia, due to the increasing influx of migrants, fusion cuisine is being reinvented and is becoming increasingly the norm at numerous cafes and restaurants; with Sydney now being considered as one of the best cities in the world with regard to the quality and creativity of Asian-fusion restaurants[citation needed]. Another incarnation of fusion cuisine is a more eclectic approach, featuring original dishes using varieties of ingredients from various cuisines and regions and combining them. Such a restaurant might feature a wide variety of dishes inspired by a combination of various regional cuisines with new ideas.

A third approach uses foods with a form based on one cuisine, but prepared using ingredients and flavors inherent to another cuisine or cuisines. For instance, pizza made with cheddar and pepper jack cheese, salsa, refried beans and other common taco ingredients is often marketed as "Taco Pizza" or a similar concept[citation needed], and is a fusion of Italian-American (pizza) and Mexican-American cuisines. Similar approaches have been used for fusion-sushi, such as rolling maki with different types of rice and ingredients, e.g. curry and basmati rice, cheese and salsa sauce with Spanish rice, or spiced ground lamb and capers rolled with Greek-style rice and grape leaves (resembling inside-out dolmades).

Since fusion cuisine is a general term, it is legitimately applied to either sort of restaurant. While many diners feature dishes from Greek, Italian, and sometimes Asian cuisines side-by-side, these restaurants are generally not considered fusion as they fail to combine any elements of the cooking styles and also have no over-arching fusion or eclectic theme

Thanks! But with a very simplistic outlook on life I must ask the question: If you want "Fusion" food then why not just go to a "Fusion Reseraunt"? Why go to a place that is obviously Greek, Spanish, Turkish, Russian, American, etc, etc, etc and then say - Not really a "Fusion" food place? Bit like going to Burger King and then saying the service was good but their range of Petrol was not as good as it used to be at Esso Filling Stations!!! Ok, back in my box - have a great weekend guys & gals.

Ate at Efindi last night, I would rate less than average with poor selection of food that is a bit old fashioned with its use of cream sauces and high in fat content. Not much good if you are a white meat eater, 1 choice and no vegitarian options. Service was not up to much either with Andy, the owner, spending most of his time with his entertainers. Have used many times before over the last 8 years. Pity it seems to have lost its way.

how188 we ate there on Thursday night and had a brilliant evening. Great food, beautiful surroundings, fantastic service and wonderful entertainment. Tony Jones is just brilliant!! Andy was with the entertainers for part of the time but he was in evidence around the restaurant too. Personal choice again but Efendi is one of our favourite restaurants. Did you speak to Andy about your concerns?

Intereting that the person who first started this thread has not returned to the thread to answer the question asked in message 6. It is always very difficult on a forum like this to know whether there is any other more sinister reason why people make such comments. If I was running a forum I would not allow such threads to be started. I have had a a very nice meal there on recommendation - but equally someone may have a different experience and if so they would not return for another meal - we would. What suits one may not suit another.

No he did not come over but the lady behind the bar did, listened to our concerns, apologised and gave us the bill for half price. I had sent mine back, they had then tried to charge us! Sadly will not be returning or recommending any more. A pity.

i agree, it would be also very much better if these treads could be search to be able to get a balanced view of a place. I guess some venues are in multiple threads. As a visitor it is easy to get a unrepresentative view of a place depending on how you input the search. I would also comment that many of the posts are way out of date. By the way post six is Andy from efendi i think??

twinky it is my considered opinion that the man has no concept of customer service He did not meet the customer face-to-face, and discuss how the meal had failed to meet the customers expectations he sneaked into the kitchen, found it to his taste and pronounced nothing wrong with it is it sensible to then come on a public forum and tell the customer *never mind you dont have to come again andy*? the man should not be allowed within 100 miles of a customer, or a computer I think that the eighth word of your post describes him perfectly

bugsy i hope that andy has taken what ive said on board and realised that you cannot just dismiss customer complaints out of hand and publicly tell them that they don\'t have to come back customer service is not about smiling and being nice to people when everything is going well, and your in a good mood, its about how you handle the situation when everything is going wrong, and youve a splitting headache and the chef is throwing a tantrum the customer is still more important than any of that as i say i hope that hes learned a lesson

I have eaten at Efendi's more times than I can remember and ALWAYS had a fantastic meal. I have an allergy to wheat and Andy, without fail, organises/cooks my food and adapts whatever is on the menu (except anything that has pastry on, of course!). Great food, great atmosphere and great staff. Absolutely love it! In my view, it is a hard act to follow.... Twinks..
