Iam looking to come out in October this year from a London airport. It looks to me as if Turkish Airlines are currently the cheapest, if not can someone let me know who the cheapest carrier would be. Looking at their flight schedule, most flights have quite a long stop over time at Ataturk airport. I would want to use the stop off time to go into the city, can anyone tell me if I would need a visa and how much it would cost? Also if there is a cheap way to get into the city and how long would it take.

Grateful for any information

Jane - lots of options are available both for day tours in Istanbul and also for flights where you do not need to change plane. Have a look at our http://www.flightholiday.co.uk web site for some ideas with regard to day tours etc. You would need to get a Turkish visa if you leave the airport transit lounges.

Need to know more details such as where you are travelling from travellers names, phone number etc. and I would be delighted to try to help.

i've always booked with pegasu { flypgs.com } stanstead to ercan with just an 1hr stop at istanbul, that's been the cheapest way for me, try comparing the web - site's for the best option.

As stated aboce TA do free tours dependant on how much time you have. At Ataturk do not bother with the transfer desk just go past it and you can purchase your visa at a kiosk to Left hand side of imigration control. 10 English pounds. Go through imigration and exit past customs.

Then turn right and head towards starbucks. TA desk is there and will organise tour etc.

If you do not fancy tour as set days/places go out of terminal and down .There is a metro system which is cheap and efficient. See tourist info for map as you have to change to get to goldon horn area.

We would recommend TA, cheaper, plenty leg room and pleasant staff, but always better to shop around on the internet.
