| Fifa to introduce a rule that there can be no hesitation when kicking a penalty but there can be in the run up to the ball. How farcical is that ? The elevation of a shot is determined by many factors including players distance from the ball, leaning backwards, getting right over the ball, pointing toes to the ground etc. Only the player can know the moment he intended to contact the ball and from what distance. Imagine the complaints to follow if a goal is disallowed because the player argues he stopped short as he intended to aim for a top corner. Many referees are incapable of seeing a goalkeeper coming off his line before the ball kicked let alone keep a critcal eye on the penalty taker at the same time. What next a 5th official for this facet of a penalty in action ? Why not a rule that the run up and kick must be continuous which was the case years ago before players tried to embellish their lack of goal scoring ability by approaching the ball like a mincing ponce ? |
