I know this has been asked before but could anyone who has fly screens tell me whether they actually work as have friends who say they still get bitten at night! If so what are the best ones to go for?

Windows are not the only way biting insects can get into your bedroom. However if you have airtight doors then the new 'sand-fly proof' screens should stop them when used in conjunction with other measures... like plug-in Vape Mat Tablet systems and mosquito spray. I know Mr Fly is selling the new finer mesh screens.

I agree with Groucho ( well, there has to be a first time for everything! ) We were advised to spray the bedroom about 2 hours before retiring, and to include the bedding, curtains, louvre doors - basically everything! I would advise you to use 'FLUETEX' - it's in a tall white and green tin, and make sure that you select the one that says 'ODOURLESS - KOKUSUZ' so that you don't have to put up with the smell of it

~Why is it that I leave my windows open without screens and rarely get a bite? It was not always the case, as I used to be covered in them with allergic reaction.

phylray, You're not the only one who's noticed that... It's a bit of a mystery isn't it? I've talked to a few people, and it seems that the longer you're here, then the less you get bitten - either that, or the bites affect you less, and are not as noticeable. I also used to get covered in great lumpy itchy swellings from the damn things, and I have found it less of a problem as time goes on (been here just over 4 years). During the worst times of the year, I do still use Autan or Johnsons repellent on exposed skin; I've never found the ones containing 'Deet' to be very effective even though it is supposed to be the dog's 'thingamajigs' I was talking to 'Mr Fly' (John) and he said that the new fine mesh screens are really good, and even though, in the words of Mandy Rice Davies, "He would say that, wouldn't he? - I have no reason to disbelieve him! I think that they are a good investment.

I have just had Dogpen 0533 8377779 from Karaoglanoglu (they only produce windows and doors) fit my home with flyscreens, the quality is highly superior to anyone elses, they quoted fairly, fitted within two days of measuring. I am delighted and highly recommend them, and yes !,it is so good to be free of mossies, flies and bugs. My friend is still waiting for a certain Mr Fly to correct the mistakes he made on their flyscreens 18 months ago, they ring him each time they come over, he promises but does not fly in........beware!!!!!

We used the local man in Catalkoy, did a good job and less than half Mr Fly's quote, both my Turkish neighbours used him for theirs as well. Only time anything gets in is when my wife leaves the screens open when she goes out for a fag!!
