Get yourself a Pedrollo one from Press Teknik. Not Chinese and last for yonks. They are also sold in the pump shop in Lefkosa... the one in the street leading to the covered market.

Everyone seems to 'knock' Chinese pumps - dunno why, cos mine's lasted 3 years - maybe because it draws its power via a *surge protector. I had one before, though, (*unprotected) - it lasted 3 days - might have been a 'Friday night/Monday morning' jobbie, though! I am not a fan of Italian electrical 'anything'. If you want a pump of quality - always buy 'Grundfoss'.

Tenkoutou, where does one buy Grundfoss in the TRNC? Pedrollo maybe Italian but they are very highly rated world-wide. As for Chinese pumps, I'm sure there are good ones but as nobody seems to know a reliable brand name from China it's not easy picking a good 'un.

Press Teknik are 100 or so yards from the Starling Supermarket that used to be Freskos... As you are heading through Alsancak towards Lapta from Girne, go past Guidos and Pizza King on your right look for big Starling Supermarket and a parade of shops on the right with Laconic and a Yapi market etc. a little further along the road you will come across their premises, there is a sign by the road 'Press Teknik'. You can pull into their compound. Their workshop is down a ramp to the left of the building. There is a very friendly Alsatian chained up on the left as you go down the ramp. They sell and repair all sorts of pumps. Their English is sketchy but the chap will come and lift the pump from the boot of your car if you smile nicely and say: 'pomp boz-ook, gell lute-fen' = Pump broken, please come. NB gell sounds like 'hell' not a 'J' sound

Groucho/Msg 5: The plumbing shop I now always go to is just next to the 'CreditWest Bank' that is opposite 'Deniz Plaza' bookstore. So, you need to be travelling west from the main Girne roundabout, so 'Deniz Plaza' is on the opposite traffic lane on your right. Speak to Ahmet - he speaks spot-on English and won't rip you!

Hi Tarry, how do you know that your pump is knackered, it could just be the capacitor that need changing. Try taking off the end cover not generally fixed and give the impeller a flick with your finger (the power needs to be on) if it runs a new capacitor will cost about 7tl.

Hutch tried that with the capacitor and the pump works well but when I attach it to the pipework and the water comes through it slowls down and does't have enough power to push the water up. They said at press technic it was knackered without even looking at it, so I suppose they know best.

Steve,I dont think you have pump problems,i think you have water pipe problems,ie;partially blocked, intake and/or outlet side.

Tarry67 They said the same to me... they meant, 'it's knackered so it will need to be fixed'. At first I misunderstood them and thought they were reading the last rites over my pump when in fact they were giving me the bad news that it needed repair. It was just the way they put it that made me think 'uh oh, I need to buy a new one' They stripped it down, rewound the armature, replaced the bearings and all the seals and fitted a new capacitor... however for the house water pump this amount of work might be uneconomic in comparison with the cost of a new one.
