Does anyone know where I can buy decking from please, I have been to the timber shop opposite law courts but they do not have decking as we know it in the Uk. I went to Aligadi beach today and noticed new changing rooms have been constructed using decking so it must be available somewhere on the Island, any help much appreciated. Sparky Mike

My neighbour has just had a balcony made and it's fitted with some very swish decking made from a composite material... Which is more stable than wood - given the sunshine here that's got to be a bonus. If you are interested I'll make enquiries

Thanks groucho. if you could ask I would be grateful, I am planning to do the job myself so don't think Mark will be a goer for me, I did look at place opp Ship Inn and owner started off very helpful but nothing was ever forthcoming of it. I know it must be available on the Island somewhere!!!

We got decking off Mark when we first came here in 2005. It is available in other places The last lot we boght was from Erel woodyard. Coming from Lapta take the 1st left past Cyprus Pools at the fountain roundabout in Girne, go down past the car tax office, keep going and just before the wine shop on the right you will come to a long chain link fence on the right. That is Erels. They do deliver the same day or next day.

Mark does decking on a supply only basis, or supply and fit, so you can fit it yourself if you prefer. cyprusjehan@yahoo.co.uk 0533 848 3699

Mikey, I spoke to Andy the spark this morning, he buys the decking from YAR on the industrial estate in Lefkosa, the one by the Ataturk stadium. It is a wood/plastic composite material and it comes in 6 metre lengths. It is quite expensive at 75TL per length but, given it's a lot more stable and maintenance free than solid wood it may well work out cheaper in the long run. Solid wood is pretty expensive in Cyprus too. It is ready grooved and looks smashing too. Of course there are no knots and it cuts just like wood. http://www.yarholding.com/index.asp?goster=1&upage=93&page=120&pageid=60898341

Thanks Groucho, I am going to Nicosia next week as I saw some decking being laid opposite Lemar and they gave me a telephone number to call, so I will try and find the place you are speaking of. Cheers

joandjelly.....ours was supplied and fitted by Mark 18 months ago and is as good as new. Yes, we have treated it but then everyone would expect to do that on an annual basis. Thoroughly recommend Mark.

Can you tell me how Mark Jehan constructs his decking please? A typical basic deck design in the UK would involve low upright posts fitted (probably concreted) into the ground and something like 5" or 6" by 2" rafters coachbolted to the uprights and the decking screwed across the rafters. Is that how he does it? How much approx per square metre did your decking work out at?
