Can't tell you much about Turkcell but Telsim have some very good deals on contract phones. There is a small monthly charge - about 2.50TL, a bit more if you want international roaming, and you can get, I think, 250 minutes for 45TL. I use a package which gives you 500 minutes for 69TL (inc KDV) These packages include all calls and texts to any other TRNC phone - land lines, Telsim and Turkcell - at any time of day/night. I believe that Turkcell have some of these kind of plans but they only include calls to other Turkcell phones which is not as useful. Check with Turkcell for definite info on these or perhaps a Turkcell customer would know?

When googling the websites, you have to ensure that you include "KKTC" otherwise you the mainland Turkish site, which is different rates. Turkcell site is in Turkish or English. Telsim site is in Turkish only.

If most of your contacts are Turkcell, then best to use Turkcell, but if most of your contacts are Telsim then use a Telsim simcard. Both have higher charges for the other network's calls, but Turkcell's are higher.

My phone book is 95% Turkcell numbers, so Turkcell tariff is best for me. Calls to Landlines are a bit cheaper with Telsim but I think their overseas calls are much dearer.

With the Telsim link in msg. 5 above, you need to select "Ucretlendirme" on the menu page.

Just to add a little to Scruff's message, if you have access, always best to use Skype for international calls.

I have just looked on Turksell website, can someone clarify i have this right!

If i purchased 6 x 100 unit cards this gives me approx 100 mins based on calls at 6 units per minute

So if i went for the basic package 3tl + 0.24tl per minute, my bill for 100mins usage would be 27tl

??? I am bit thick with this sort of thing!

No not thick, you've got it right! on pay as you go, 100 mins will cost you 36tl but on contract it will cost 24tl plus the 3tl monthly fee total 27tl

msg 9,

Yes, you can definitely keep the same Turkcell number if changing from PAYG to Contract - and vice versa

I have a Turkcell contract but do not buy the fixed 100 mins. option etc. If you are sure that you will always use your 100 mins. then okay, but watch out for what happens if you go over the limit.

Last month (April) my total bill incl. KDV & monthly fee was 18.38 TL. I had 5 free minutes from the previous month's bill & including those free mins. I had used the mobile for 64 minutes.

In March I paid 27.62 TL, with usage of 107 minutes, including 15 free minutes earned previously, from my store.

I'm not sure it is actually worth tying yourself down to a fixed usage tariff.
