A friend has loaned me his car. It is fully tax'd, MoT'd, insured, etc. It has a valid "Tax" certificate for the South as well. His name is in the log book and all other documentation. His insurance for the North states "any driver with the owners permission" so I am covered for here. Question - Will I be able to insure the car for the South when I drive across to the little insurance kiosk the other side of the Metahan crossing? I can see no problems here but just wonder if anyone else has done this recentley. Many thanks.

You can do that as long as you've got your driving license and the nesscary paperwork for the car, for example previous insurance and/or road tax. Just go to the desk and ask to be added to the insurance policy....they may be a little charge for it like 10 euros or something around that.

Yes I can confirm that it is 10 euros to add another driver once the policy is issued, however it seems that you can then renew including additional driver(s) for no extra charge

Thank you both, the original inurance (1 month only) has now expired so I guess I will be better off to start fresh for a new month at 25 Euros rather than try to renew it and add myself as an extra driver? I thought it would be possible as North hire cars that go to the South would not be in the name of the driver in the log book and the insurance for the North would just be a "Generic" cover all drivers sort anyway. Many thanks.

Make sure you have the Greek MOT with the car. It is free at Metahan but only daytime Monday to Friday. I found this out to my cost when the nice insurance man at Pyla sent me to Metahan on a Saturday morning!
